    Rio Olympics

AUS Women are falling off as the season moves. At first they looked like a lock to finish in final 4 with 2 2nd place finishes, now that is not a lock after losing to Russia and the USA, badly, in Canada this weekend to finish 7th. This is after a 5th place finish at the USA. Current...

    What position did/do you play?

I ran a 10.7 100meters - so spent a lifetime (until age 37) stranded on the wing with those ball-hogging centres! Argh! Which is why I loved 7s, got to play every position except scrumhalf.

    What position did/do you play?

Very telling to why GAGR doesn't appreciate 7s....too many props!

IRB Sevens 2014/15 World Series - Round 1 Gold Coast - 11/12 October

I wish all Pools could be like Pool D, each match could have gone either way. Surprise team is ARG, but they did bring a pretty loaded roster. I'd favour them against SAM today to finish Top 4 at GC. Could you imagine how an ARG top 4 finish at season end would through the Olympic...

    Rugby 7s general chat

Technically, GB has declared that ENG is the only team that can qualify GB this IRB Sevens Season. This is to prevent GB from having 3 horses in the race and stacking the odds. However, ANY player with a GB passport can be selected for the Olympic team.

    Rugby 7s general chat

ENG is playing for Team GB. How ENG finishes determines if GB qualify.

    Rugby 7s general chat

Regarding the Oceanic 7s, the Fiji team that one it was a B side. None of those players will be at the Gold Coast 7s barring injury replacement. Both the NZ and AUS teams had 6-8 players that will be in the Gold Coast 7s. I think Fiji will be hard to beat this season, along with NZ and...

    Australian Rugby Development Centre

Now that the Titans are fully moving out of the Bond Uni Institute of Sport ( old Titans Centre of Excellence), there is more room for rugby HP. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-24/gold-coast-titans-relocate-to-coomera/5766926 The Titans' presence had a lot to do with the 7s teams not...

RIP Test Rugby on the Gold Coast

I think this is a serious, and true, problem. Unless you were seeking for upcoming Wallabies matches, then you had no idea this was going on. I invited about 10 people on the Thursday, and got 8 to come along with me...BUT NONE OF THEM EVEN HEARD THE WALLABIES WERE IN TOWN, until I told them...

Where to for quality Rugby journalism???

Not sure where to post this question: where can I find a timetable of pre-match press conferences that I may take my Uni Sport Information class? Something around the Wallabies v All Blacks at Suncorp and/or Gold Coast 7s. Are media appearances published anywhere for the ARU? I have...

    IRB to become "World Rugby"

Just thinking about this, I wonder if the 'world.rugby' website/domain has any significant influence in the rebranding? irb.rugby is not as sexy. Maybe an attempt at streamlining all online content?

    IRB to become "World Rugby"

The IRB or World Rugby or WRF or whatever won the case to own the .rugby top level domain (i.e. .com, .net), so they will probably launch "world.rugby" as the new website. We should soon be able to have websites like greenandgold.rugby, australia.rugby, and reds.rugby. How people can buy/win...

    New ARU Contracting post 2016

I think the exodus of players may be one part, but it also sets up players wishing to play in the Olympics a chance to recoup income they may lose by missing some Super Rugby in 2016. The ARU is not in a position to pay 7s contracts to the same level as Super Rugby, so allowing them to go to...

    International Eligibility

It appears the IRB's committee for nation switching will only allow swapping unions if they think there is real intent to actually play 7s in the Olympics. Obviously opens the door for discrimination and possible courts, but we will see...

Armitage considering the loophole: Steffon Armitage is plotting a sensational switch of allegiance to France which could see him come back to haunt England at next year’s Rugby World Cup. The Rugby Paper understands Toulon’s star back rower is exploring the possibility of representing Les...

    2014 Women's Rugby World Cup.

Ireland prepared extremely well for this tournament. While AUS and NZ have heavily focused on 7s, the Irish actually pulled back the 7s (they are a core team on the womens series) to have the top girls train exclusively for 15s. It paid dividends with the win over NZ. They are my bet to face...

Aussie 15 man Players to go to 7's

He wasn't 7s fit, but still played great with the minutes given. The fitness is a big reason why these players need to stop 15s and focus on 7s in the lead up. Foley, Morahan, Gill, McMahon, Phipps, Coleman and Hooper are all very likely to cross back over in 2016. Maybe not all - depending...

    International Eligibility

It will be very interesting to watch what players turn out for the IRB Sevens Series this year. Maybe even at the Gold Coast 7s.
