September would be far better timing than the current paradigm that feels more like a trial during preseason when most rosters are different from the prior season.
Club rugby is simultaneously too big to be put to the side and not big enough because most clubs don't have the resources or...
Like the idea of a loose forward or scrum half as captain regardless of personal qualities. Always near the ref for the full 80 and able to stay in his ear.
Pretty sure I saw a different politician's name advertised on a tent at Brothers. Made me laugh a bit but I can't fault someone for exhausting all avenues for political advertising.
Looking at the ladder, the discrepancy in +/- between Brothers and the rest of the leading teams is eye opening. +134 for Brothers and the rest of the top 4 are in the +35-40 range.
Happy for the kids that get a great education and career opportunities out of the deal. I'm sure it sets them and their families up far better than the alternative.
However I can't shake the feeling that there's something weird about a national level initiative to import teenagers to play for...
In the realm of strategic assistance, what about funneling some of the players from Victoria that need a competition toward Norths? With the unfortunate demise of the Rebels there should be a few more players to go around between Wests and Norths.
Fanatics and Michael Rubin might be good at providing an e-commerce platform, but don't allow them to grab exclusive rights to producing the actual merchandise. They have a track record of anything they touch taking an immediate nose dive in quality and durability.
It makes a big difference in 5G because most other clubs struggle to have experienced depth at those positions and the average 5G player is smaller or less skilled than higher grades. Ends up being pretty simple, forward dominant rugby where size has a disproportionate impact. Yeah not all...
Souths don't struggle for forward and in particular front row depth since they have a surplus of larger gentlemen of a certain demographic at the club. That can win you games in 5G and 6G by itself. Forward talent tends to even out across the competition when you get to 4G.
In terms of population centres that have preexisting clubs; Sunny Coast and Logan seem to be the best. You could also throw in Ipswich, Caboolture, and something toward the Wynnum/Redlands area further down the line.
There's a separate discussion to be had about whether amalgamating them into...
Baseball is in a worse position. Imagine cricket but they play 160+ 4-5 hour long matches a year. Completely dilutes the meaningfulness of any game you watch and the actual game itself is largely standing and waiting for something to happen with none of the crowd culture you see in cricket. If...
There's sometimes a suburban team or a team from the sunny coast that's keen for a friendly match. Caboolture comes down to Brisbane to play Colts 4/4.5/5. Sunny Coast Brothers and Noosa were both interested in coming down. Or alternatively a large portion will play 6G that friday night...
20-30 extra players paying rego and buying tins/merch/Tigerburgers without any of the extra investment Prems requires seems like it would be an easy sell financially.
More potential points in the Doughty Shield every weekend since 5G counts for that as well.
Rather not give the exact club since the Brisbane rugby scene is a disconcertingly small world. But you've probably seen me around in lower grades.
Couldn't bring myself to consider Norths and commit to an uphill battle every saturday morning for 3g or 4g when I had no preexisting ties. Every...
That's still absurd that a few guys being pulled up to 2s causes every grade below to be undermanned when you have a theoretical pool of 60 to pull from. Was there there a festival that weekend or exams on for students?
Tapping into the Sunny Coast talent pool is a good idea, but I'm not sure it helps their perception problem if they turn into a transitory proving ground for talent that isn't already playing Colts 1 or Prems elsewhere.
Take away clubs affiliated with a university like UQ and Bond because...
