IIRC the ASBs flew out for the UK last Sunday (no Schoolies for the truly committed). Does anyone have an itinerary or game schedule? Any idea if any of they games will be streamed? Thanks
Joeys attendance is very high because it’s compulsory, not because that’s what boys choose to do on a Saturday afternoon. It may or may not reflect or create a greater school spirit. Whether other schools should also make attendance compulsory in an effort to at least present the appearance of...
You are one hell of a cynic if you think Barker as an institution had any more to do with it than Waverley as an institution does the tanked OBs that regularly turn up on their Northern sideline and abuse visiting school boys who have the misfortune of being tackled over the sideline or...
Looks like Luca Moretti is going to get a few frequent flyer points up in the coming months having been selected in the ASSRL team to tour the UK. http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=0-2130-0-0-0&sID=26416&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=62718049. Whilst the ASB touring team to...
Thanks Nomad. Do you know whether the boys who won’t be playing in the Tri Nations get to play again as a squad or are they all back to Colts et al to await the selectors decision in Oct?
Does that mean any such boys selected would be included in the 6 to be added to the 40 this weekend or are they in addition to the 46? If the former, then presumably this was the plan from the outset
Minogue from N2/Kings was the unluckiest 10/12 at the tournament not to be selected after a great season and trial matches v CAS and CHS, imo. His consistency and robustness (he rarely has a sub par match or injury) at both GPS and higher level is in contrast to others who seem to draw the...
@Jets, I may well be mistaken, but aren’t there a few boys in the squad that have signed with league? Eg, don’t Ilias and Edmed play with the Tigers? I didn’t see all the matches and could quibble at the edges over a few selections, but it looks like the selectors got it about right. This is...
Leaving aside say a preference for size, which I agree was probably the key factor in Pavlakis - from a CAS school which was performing reasonably well - omission, I think it largely comes down to familiarity bias. For better or worse, most selectors will come from a GPS/CAS/ISA background...
Walton deserves the wraps the way he has been playing. Hopefully he will be Waldaba High’s first ASB (no idea if that is correct, but there cant have been many). The symbolic importance of boys outside the private schools being selected at the highest level shouldn’t be underestimated. That in...
Does anyone have a report / score line from N1 v Q2?
Edit: (from rugby.com.au)
“NSW I sealed an undefeated pool stage with a big 47-5 win over QLD II.
The top NSW side never looked like losing, controlling proceedings throughout the whole 60 minutes.
RESULT
NSW I 47
QLD II 5”
A shame we...
Whilst it’s great to see the NSW JRU u18s doing well in Qld, and continuing to play rugby post school (for most), it’s worth keeping it in perspective. They lost 4 tries to nil vs the 3rd picked GPS team (Blue) - boys not selected for GPS v CAS and CHS - a couple of weeks ago. So on that form...
Correct re Tricks. And not all of them were simply standing at the end of a dominant backline. Took a good intercept for one meat and had to work hard for a couple of others. I thought he was the stand out winger in the first 2 matches on Saturday, but haven’t seen the Q1 lad who scored 4 v WA.
Today’s matches
10.00 Nsw 1 v ACT
11.30 Qld 1 v CS
1.00 Qld 2 v VIC
2.30 Nsw 2 v WA
Does anyone predict other than a win to each of the first named teams above? Maybe WA a dark horse?
I thought the N2 reserves Hickey and Rizk (wing and FB) were very good and combined well for a couple of tries. Great to see some boys from outside the GPS/CAS cohort standing up
Agreed CJ. Intriguing though that it so much less national than past years. 20 NSW, 3 QLD and zero other. Not sure if that is reflective of selectors’ views that this years crop of NS Welshman is much stronger across the board than their QLD, ACT and Vic counterparts in particular. It certainly...
