Yeah sorry mate, just misread it and I've got annoyed with people using anecdotal evidence in arguments so it was an immediate reaction without much though.
I don't understand this point of view. Unless there is blatantly unfair refereeing, isn't the better team the one that wins on the day? It seems like every time an underdog comes close to winning, either with a small loss or a draw, they are called the better team, even if they didn't win.
In almost every GPS game I've been to, both crowds have done that. I'd say it's part of the culture. Similar to everyone going silent for penalty and conversion attempts when, apart from Ireland, you don't find it often elsewhere such as at international and higher level games.
I also remember...
It doesn't seem logical to have multiple upper level games on the same field in the same day though. All things taken into account, you have muddled field markings, different goal posts, and I don't think soccer would like the state the field was left in by the other, and apparently neither...
I'm not entirely sure, didn't pursue it further. I would suspect lowering the required mark for entry exams? Just being at such an academic school would be a good incentive, if the entry marks were lower.
In reply to your 2nd comment, I think it's 8 each for socccer and rugby.. Might be wrong
Re-reading his quote I see he wrote year-round obsession, so it does suggest he thinks they don't do anything else.
However when I said it was an obsession I meant in the context that it seems the majority of boys head into Rugby and do more training than the other schools. I think they have...
Where did that come from? He said the Joeys has a large contingent of boarders who are obsessed with rugby. Is that not true? He didn't say anything about them being knuckle draggers, that was completely inferred by you
From reading the posts after, what I gather is there were suggestions about the remaining 7 or 8 starting players NOT listed, but none of the 7 or 8 listed by Jack.
Unless I just completely missed a post?
Check out Brumby Jack the 1st's post a couple of pages back. List of 7 or 8 kids known to have been at the school since year 7, thus probably unlikely to have been scouted and given bursaries for their sporting prowess.
