I’ve long believed that rugby in Aust would need to go broke before it could dismantle what needs to be dismantled and new organisation created. Such is the grip the entrenched rugby ruling groups have on the game. And such is their incompetence.
I’d always hoped it wouldn’t get to this point.
I...
Exactly - the Chair shouldn’t be the one coming with the “vision”.
And nor is the CEO to be fair.
CEO sets the strategy - “alignment”
The Board confirms the strategy and holds the CEO accountable for the delivery of it.
it’s then up to the CEO to execute … and you would think to execute this...
so its been reporting the review into the dumpster fire RWC performance will be run by Andrew Slack, Justin Harrison and Darlene Harrison (industry expert).
how does RUPA get to run this?? i thought it was meant to be an independent report.
governance RA style. what a crock.
next level detail - i'd run the two comps concurrently. so that impact is reduced. your either playing SRAu or SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) for the season - not both (perhaps only as a short term injury cover.) Reasoning is that global calendar will dictate it mainly. and the current Super Rugby teams are doing some good stuff...
A few pages back I suggested a new structure where the 5 current Super Rugby teams play in a domestic SRAu (plus others if need be), and there be two new teams created to play international provincial rugby (so SRP (Super Rugby Pacific), world club champs if it eventuates).
advantages:
More competitive vs kiwi teams in SRP (Super Rugby Pacific)...
Totally agree. I'd say that the Governance model in NZ where the Provincial Unions have more clout on the NZR board is the only thing keeping the comp at the semi-pro level it is. NZR and others on the board have moved on from the comp but breaking up is proving hard to do.
I'm certainly not...
You do know that the NPC is becoming less and less important to NZ pro rugby with each passing year? from nz contacts i've heard it is seen as a very very expensive development program which isnt delivering the players it once did. school to academies to under age national teams and onto super...
i've been trying to think of some more unique ways of dealing with our pro teams/SRP (Super Rugby Pacific)/cohesion/wage costs/attractive tv product etc....
Now i'm walking into some murky areas here so no blowing up at me. this whole topic is full of landmines and emotions.
so Aus should only have two teams in...
I thought about using 2003 as the cut off. And could quite easily have done so and still made the same point.
we just haven’t cracked the code of consistency. And to be honest, it was fair enough back in the amateur era.
but we’ve hung on to those same structures for the pro era. The only true...
if you go back and look at the history of the wallabies you realise we have had three anomalies in regards to results - The 84 Grand Slam, the 91 RWC and the 99RWC-2001.
beyond that we are performing only a little under our historical norm.
Why is it only in rugby that we hear about wanting full professional players to go play in an amateur comp? ♂
you don’t see anyone expecting NRL or AFL players to be back home playing in some amateur comp.
this idea that it will somehow “help the game” is a myth I’m sorry. It’s a redundant...
A less optimistic fan would have written a “Goodbye 2023” post weeks ago!
but yes the regular season is over and its onto the finals. If we can replicate our earlier win over the chiefs it will truly be a unique kind of season! Here’s hoping!!
Well goodbye 2023. Goodbye Thorn. Thanks for your efforts.
where to from here?
every time it’s new coach time at the Reds we get teased with a global search and list of experienced and qualified coaches - to then only be served up relative rookies who are great blokes and/or legends of the...
