ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

IGS were pretty supportive and encouraged their boys to JGC last time around so I hope they do the same again. Luckily they subscribe to the idea that to be better at football you should play football, unlike some of the other GPS schools who count their kids as 'investments' and don't allow...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Would be interesting to see the make up of the Met West side- I suspect a good chunk of them would come from Ipswich High which has a big league program now a days- we saw a few of the boys in that program play in the Ipswich JGC squad last year- ie this years u16 program, but only one of them...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Is there even going to be a JGC for U15 this year? I know that there is going to be a National U16 Champs on the GC this September holidays, I would assume this is going to replace that. I had heard from past interactions with WA that they had up to 6 months of planning and preparations for...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Apologies if I misled anyone with my comments- I can say for certain that one of the injuries was caused by a late hit- the reserve half was concussed by the one late hit that was caught by the ref and the player binned for it. There were two other concussions- one the winger Animal referred to...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Tough game closer than it sounds. Fair play to Wa for winning but they won't win any fans with their tactics. Rough, lots of late hits, another sin binning. One Wa try was definitely held up but the same ref who didn't excel in the Gold v Ippy game was at it again. WA penalised at least half a...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

For mine, out of the Qld sides the two most surprising teams have been Ipswich and CQ. The thing about Ipswich is that they only had 14-15 players trial and there was doubt they wouldn't get a team so to only lose one game so far (which they should have won if not for two held ups, decisions not...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Certainly a fantastic game with lots of ebbs and flows of momentum. Gold Coast fought well after two quick tries in the second half and certainly didn't give up. White defended well in the last five minutes especially being one down due to injury. How much wil GC have left for WA on Wednesday night?

From what I hear he may be okay for WA if not that then the finals.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Wrong. Only one who hasn't played had his fractured hand taken out of a cast Friday. And he was the one who was named to start in the first game and got hurt in warm up.

I heard the GC only beat CQ 19-12 last night at home. I'd be interested to see if they played their perceived weaker team to save them for tomorrow's game, as if have thought they'd have done a lot better than that

Thrilled for them. Missing the game tonight so was looking forward to updates. The boys looked sharp last two sessions and the week off helped.

Full time 13-12 Gold. Imo Ipswich were the better team- set piece was dominant just too much dropped ball and maybe rueing the decisions not to take penalties in the first half. I don't like to say Gold were lucky but they certainly pulled it out of the fire.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

0-0 halftime. Ipswich spent a lot of time camped in Gold 22. Gold lucky not have player/s binned for repeated infringements near the try line. Ipswich held up twice and they dropped a few chances too. Gold have the wind in the 2nd half so interesting to see if they can use it.

I'm very very happy with this result. Ipswich definitely have the whip hand in this pool now.

I think you'll find it's the schools themselves actively preventing their boys from trialling. One Brisbane GPS school in particular "asked" it's u15 scholarship boys to withdraw.

T Good to hear. I know of lot of the Ipsiwch boys, some good footballers in there with a bit more work.

They've just begun finalising coaching/manager roles in the last few days. Trials are the next few weekends.
