Dour game at Curlew - lots of poor execution by both teams - Padua very understrength without their line-breakers 13, 15 and regular 9. A shadow of the team that were a bee's dick from beating ASH in Round 1.
Opportunities for Padua to win at the death but poor ball control let them down...
Three SLC forwards selected? The same forwards that conceded 3 "drive-over" tries by a smallish Padua forward pack - this doesn't sound right.
TBH I didn't even notice the SLC locks (their 7 stood out actually) - I'm surprised the Padua 6 isn't there too - he was the best forward in a dominant...
I didn't see the red card "incident" but to be fair we have all seen players sent off undeservedly - every case is judged on its merits (it is the same for all schools and let's be honest fellas ALL schools would have done the same thing).
Of more concern is the AIC policy of playing boy in...
SLC 9A very good today - they were 0-0 at HT again PAD but won by three tries to one in the end - the 9 comp is great - VILL/ASH/PAD/SLC/IONA all very strong
Big win for understrength Padua at Banyo - first half was arm wrestle stuff - big Padua forwards eventually dominating with a couple of pushover tries - Lauries willing at the breakdown as always. Padua best - 10 (usually plays seconds at 10); 12 (some massive hits, really dominates the...
A teams will beat B teams as a general rule - SPLC were not able to field an A side in some age levels - not a strong rugby program by any standards - that much is clear - thanks for your interest
What a great AIC competition we have - sounds like some great teams coming through - ASH/SLC 10's.; PAD/VILL/ASH 9's. I know it's an old chestnut but the SPLC round is a real blight on the competition - a farce really. The PAD 9A' dismantled SPLC by 70-5 and the First XV won by a healthy margin...
The 9A comp has been very close - but there's not a split hair between PAD, VILLA and ASH from what I've seen. PAD led ASH all game to be beaten in literally the last minute of the game. That said the sides were close in ability. PAD scored first against VILLA with VILLA going to the break 10-7...
Any other reports from Pad v Eddies - confirmed 80-0 scoreline? St Peter's went down narrowly to SPC who pushed Padua - can SPLC cause an upset and knock the eagle from its perch?
This is a good, fair assessment - I didn't think the Marist pack was light by any means - if anything they ran out of gas - the big 1 (PNG boy I think) was just too slow - he pulled off some shots but was ineffective around the park compared to the Padua props. I don't get the mentality of the...
Tears may have been flowing but not enough heart shown on the field when it mattered.
Ashgrove forward pack simply dominated in almost al aspects - maybe all except line out. Their aggression wasn't matched and ultimately what won them the game in my opinion.
I agree - they didn't match I...
Padua were definitely dominant in every facet but a little unfair to suggest the Ashgrove boys disgraced themselves - they were very upset and the tears were flowing - re the stripped 5 points - Padua executed a fantastic try down the short side but then the linesman reared his head and informed...
IMHO the only Ashgrove back that almost shaded his Padua counterpart was the fullback - the 9 and 10 were miserable, the PNG boy in the centres looked great but could not penetrate a film of custard - the wingers were dominated by the Padua players - Ashgrove forwards were strong and deserved...
I wouldn't go as far as to allege corruption but there seems to be a selection bias in favour of the Marist boys - it is a confirmation bias really - "because they are at Ashgrove they must be better and were just having an off day agaist Padua , Eddies or Pats" - other school's...
Looks a good team - I thought Ashgrove 15 was elusive against Padua at Banyo and deserves his spot - the Ashgrove winger and centre were not impressive and were comprehensively out pointed by their opponents IMHO - the Ashgrove forwards held their own but the backs let them down - maybe they...
Oh and I thought the Ashgrove 15 was a very elusive player - the only back who looked like breaking a tackle - I agree some harsh armchair critics here. Perhaps a ball hog but the Ashgrive wingers were not strong and perhaps he lacked confidence in them. Over..
Focusing on the positive for a second - congratulations to thd Padua boys - I saw the Ashgrove game and they were without a shadow of doubt the better side. Ashgrove were the standard bearers for so long but they can't rest on their laurels any more. Two years ago at Banyo Padua were unlucky to...
