The problem with this is that the professional players hardly ever play for their clubs these days.

IMO it's just a waste of time. I doubt the captains ever say much about what the ref's warning because everyone knows what the problem is. The players should know the laws and when a ref tells the captain "another infringement in the red zone and it will be a card" I reckon all the players...

Could someone at Souths please provide their captain with a Rugby Law book so he doesn't have to ask the referee to explain every decision he makes? And also, can we please stop this nonsense of refs telling captains to go and talk to their team when they give a warning --- just speak loudly...

Agree with you on both points. I was yelling at the TV --- "take the bloody points"! The best weapon Souths had was the scrum, but what was the point of just packing another scrum every time they got a penalty? They eventually, of course, defused their own weapon by forcing uncontested. The...

Just watched Souths v Norths. Does anyone know why Norths had to drop to 13 players after a front rower was yellow carded? Is that because they didn't have another front rower and had to go uncontested scrums?

I thought it would be interesting to check the Player Points from all the teams in round 1 --- this was supposed to even out the competition by putting a 100 point cap on each first grade team: Uni 37 v Hunter 83 Easts 92 v Souths 51 Woods 82 v 2Bs 15* Wests 38 v Wicks 60 Pen 29* v Norths 42...

Agree with your comments, but I'd point out that a key strength of both the NRL and AFL is their ongoing presence on free-to-air, both in Oz and overseas. Granted not all games, but 3-4 every week.

Well done STAN but it's a pity (for fans and Rugby) that the SS is not on free-to-air. First time in living memory. The Wicks only have a handful of players left from last year (7's, o/s, etc). Hope the new recruits and promotions from Colts can fill the gaps. Up the Wicks!

Wicks missing some key players yesterday --- Longbottom, Miller, Poidevin. Added to Tauakipulu, Hutchinson and Croke all with long term injuries, I believe. But still could have won with better goal kicking. Interesting that the 2 ex-Wicks players (Stoltz and Edmed) contributed 18 of Woods...
