I find these selections very interesting.
Just wonder what selectors are actually looking at considering that the 16s was won by Two Blues with Randwick runners up.

5 x Two Blues - Premiers
6 x Randwick - 2nd
12 x Warringah - 3rd
12 x Gordon - 5th
4 x Norths - Won the Bowl (3rd tier trophy)
2 x Southern Districts - 14th
2 x Sydney Uni/West Harbour - 19th
1 x Manly - Won the Plate (2nd tier trophy)
1 x Eastwood - 13th

From a neutral observer...

Two Blues have every right to be very annoyed. I could understand the argument 2-3 years ago that they are just big boys bashing through the middle, but that is no longer the case. Sure they are still big boys, but they are now playing the game with a lot of skill.

I have to assume that some players are now simply overlooked as selectors believe that no matter how dominant they are at State Champs, that style of play doesn't translate to higher level rep play.

I also thought it might be selections influenced by the existence of league contracts, but there are a lot of names there that are league players.

I'm not sure on the NSW system but QLD had there state champs a few weeks ago. There were a fair few questionable selections in the 2 QLD teams also with a lot of parents confused as to why certain kids had been selected when others that had been better players in better teams all weekend missing out.
I've had "conversations" with selectors before for these higher rep teams and have been told that kids already "in the system" get preference over a new player that has performed at a state carnival.
I had 2 questions that they would not answer.
1. Then why are these kids here lead to believe the next level rep team would be fairly picked based off performance at the comp.
2. Why are kids that have had the benefit of being in the system (access to extra coaching and facilities etc.) not consistently out performing others that are working hard either at club or school level with out the reward of making these teams.

Teams like Gordon & Warringah only lost 1 or 2 matches all tournament, its the same for the Two Blues. Two Blues just lost a pool game whereas Warringah & Gordon lost the Quarter final. Warringah beat Gordon in the Sydney Cup, Warringah beat Randwick 25-0 in a pool game, Gordon beat Two Blues 20-17 in a pool game. You can't just make selections off who wins the thing. All the kids selected have done a good job. They will be up against some strong country teams.
