AIC Rugby 2021

Long shot, I know. But is anyone currently at the St Eddies v St Pats and the Padua v St Peters games?

Their livestreams aren't working and I'm looking for help getting the scores!

Cheers

Was out at Runcorn today.
SLC rugby program is in dire need of a total rebuild.
The once mighty black and gold use to share parity with the grovers. Just a shaddow now.
I did not hear of a MCA rugby team that lost by the time I had left (I hope Iam wrong). And I hope the SLC firsts go close.
In the yr9s SLC struggled to field 3 teams??? Whats the go there. The combined MCA A,B & C team scores in yr 9 was well over 200 to SLC 0.

Crazy to think that SLC is by far the largest school in terms of population with around 2000 boys but struggle to field 3 teams. You would expect that maybe from peters and eddies. Not sure what's happened to SLC but this decline has been occurring since around 2010-2011.

A very poor MCA currently getting done by a not as poor SLC.
The standard of game and players from both teams well below previous years. Hope SLC hold on and get up given the ordinary earlier results I saw earlier. MCA need much improvement particularly inside backs. Only positive for MCA is dominant scrum.

I only caught the second half so can’t comment too much, but really happy SLC got the win. I agree with Echidna - it certainly wasn’t the Ashgrove I’m used to seeing. Lacked polish, uncharacteristic dropped balls, and I thought they got outdone at the ruck. Had the Lauries scrum on skates though. From what I did see, the SLC defence was pretty good, and the backline looked more threatening in attack. Did anyone catch the final score? I had no idea Lauries were in the lead until the final whistle blew.

Great win by SLC - Ashgrove usually bigger faster and stronger than their opponents - not this year. A number of other schools will be looking to capitalise on a weaker Marist side. SlC far from unbeatable as well. SLC thumped Ashgrove in the Seconds. Thirds called off just after half time with Ashgrove up 10-5 but SLC poised to score with a penalty 19 metres out.

Don't think there's a clear favourite to win this year. Villa losing to Iona at home. What was the result in the eddies vs pats game?

Good to see a close comp.
I understand that the 2022 / 23 years at Lauries and Iona are good. Iona may get depleted though in the future by ACGS as has been the trend.. MCAs current yr 9s (2024) is best chance moving forward for the grovers . Possibly a yr earlier, though its already a team full of youngsters with up to 6 being in the lower age cohort. Look out for Tom Howard who many tip to play 1XV next year.

Ahh Faddi, Seems the word "weak" is a dominant one in your vocabulary. Will probably be reflected in your ATAR results this year too.

Love it, keep stoking the fire lad. No doubt plenty of 1st players from other schools will read this and it will fire them up for their Villa game. It's what Villa supporters seem to do best (except Vik - where are you to give your usual honest appraisal of Villa and the comp in general?).

Didn't a "weak" Pats draw with Villa in a trial 2 weeks ago? And a usually "weak" SPLC beat Villa last year?

I mean, if I was a Villa 1sts player I would pull you aside and have friendly word in your ear about motivating other teams as they are the ones who will have to deal with it, not you from the safety of the 4th XV bench. But not I. I say keep it up you stirrer you!

And yes, the Iona/Villa game was a cracker. Why Villa didn't take the easy 3 at 18-10, and then had a shot in a much harder position a couple of minutes later is anyone's guess. Gutsy performance against what seemed a huge and fast Iona side.

Morning gents,
In regards to the comp this year I would like to address the fixtures for teams playing a round against St Peters. Peters only have 7 teams in AIC rugby this year across the whole school, taking into consideration they are a co-ed school and have never been a massive rugby school. However, they have produced a quality 1st XV team in the later years. Since Peters only have a 1st and 2nd XV I found it interesting that the 3rds and 4ths from all AIC schools will be playing the Ambrose Treacy 1sts and 2nds. This seems like a poor decision to introduce Amrbose Treacy 1sts as an aggregate team in the 3rds competition who have already proved a mismatch against the Padua 3rds with a 50-0 or so scoreline. Will be interesting to see how they perform against the Villanova 3rds this wekened who have been given the honor of wearing the 1sts Ballymore cup jerseys for this occasion. Obviously the ATC 1st XV are massive favourites and it does feel wrong to have them as an aggregate team in the 3rds comp this year.
Would love to hear your opinions on this gentlemen,
Pete.

As an ATC parent, we thought the team would fit better in the 2nds comp, but unfortunately that's not our call. Our first game of the season was a 1 point loss to Marist 2nds. That alone I thought was a decent gauge as to our level. One of our challenges, to be fair, is I think we are likely to have uncontested scrums most of the season (don't quote me on that but we have every game so far). Perhaps that's a big factor and somewhat understandably I guess.

Yeah Reg,
AIC ruled that thirds teams do contested scrums but quickly reversed that decision. I definitely think ATC should be included in some rugby competitions but i do personally think its a huge mismatch in the thirds competition. At the end of the day it is just a game of rugby and it will ensure ATC get some games in each week.
Cheers,
Pete.

I'm expecting big things of ATC in the seasons to come. As the spiritual descendents of Nudgee Junior, will they just receive a production line of kids from Kenmore Bears? Will they join AIC or aim for GPS?

....ahh no...you don't join....you get invited....and its not even on the horizon....GPS would prefer to only have 8 in the comp.....no byes and with the terms being so short these days there is hardly time for the comp..let alone trials and byes

I doubt it will count towards the aggregate. You'll probably see ATC games as 0-0 results on the AIC results website.

It is a concern that they are going uncontested in scrums Reg. Can't see them getting invited in to any comp soon unless they sort that out.

The coaches might might want to get into contact with this bloke

A more passionate advocate of the set piece you will not find, he'll have them ready to go in a few sessions, at least against AIC 2nd teams. Pretty sure he'd be happy if rugby games were 70/80 minutes of scrummaging with the backs watching on holding hands and talking about their feelings.
