Don't AFL fans say the same thing about Marvel?

From what I know it's never been that well liked.

Marvel is soulless, its an amazing ground for viewing almost any sport but because it’s a smaller playing surface to cater for rugby & soccer it makes the afl games hard to watch. Its on the water & even though it has a roof its freezing cold in winter. Plus Victorians as a whole love the mcg. Aami park is pretty bloody good for what rectangular sports need & in a great locatation.

AAMI park just isn’t big enough for any finals matches at the RWC, suitable for pool matches though. So it’s going to fall on MCG or Marvel for a finals match

Or Perth and Brisbane for QF's and Sydney for SF & Final.

Maybe Brisbane for the bronze final?

I think logistically there needs to be 2 QF's for each venue and the SF's also need to be at the same venue or city, supporters can't be trying to change their flights and tickets depending on pool results.

This definitely seems to be the way now. Irrespective of whether you finish 1st or 2nd in your pool, your quarter final location is known. That has been the case since 2011.

When we hosted the 2003 RWC though we did it differently. The quarter final Australia played could have been in either Brisbane or Melbourne depending on whether they were first or second. I doubt that would be repeated.

Out of interest. Does any country share test matches around like Australia does?

South Africa maybe.. most other countries have a single primary stadium, or maybe another one or two hosts. Australia shares test matches between 4 major cities, and then another 3-4 peripheral cities.

New Zealand? We've played them in Dunedin, Wellington, Christchuch and Auckland (ignoring neutral venues).

SAF we've played in Cape Town, Durban, J'Burg, Bloemfontein, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth.

France mixes it up a bit - Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Clemot-Ferrand, Strasborg, Marseille, Lille.

We've played the Poms in Blackheath once, but other than that its all been Twickers.

Wales only in Cardiff. Ireland only in Dublin. Scotland in Edinburgh and Glasgow (just once).

multiple in Arg too. So really, its only the 4 home nations that really don't.

Probably also influenced by the second and third largest cities in Wales being either an hour away (Swansea) or half an hour away (Newport).

The second largest city in Ireland (Cork) has 1/5 the population of Dublin.

Isn’t Ireland Rugby incl. NI too? Do they ever play in Belfast?

Mate it’s the worst stadium in the world soulless. It’s just a terrible venue, if you want to park there it’s $32 if you want a beer and a pie you need to ask the bank for a second mortgage. If you want to avoid paying for parking and get the train they have over developed around the venue so you exit into a massive bottle neck to try and get on a train. You could not get a worse match day experience if you tried.

Seriously the MCG $10 to park open space around it so it’s easy to disperse after the game

AAMI park, if it’s a big event they open the park at the G again $10 if it’s a small event there are plenty of free parks. Access is fairly good

Seems the feds are also keen for us to host the 2029 RWC (womens) and are prepared to throw some cash at it, as we ‘major event’ our way out of the Covid crisis.

So what can we potentially tick off?

32 'Lypmics
29 RWC (womens)
27 RWC
23 FIFA Womens WC
22 T20 WC

I believe the World Athletics Championships are on more than one state govt radar.

Various glad-handers are even putting the flag up for another Commie Games ... NSW Libs, Shepparton in Vic, ohh... also Perth man-about-town Basil Zempilas (no chance).

Is 7s RWC still a thing? seems a bit pointless with the Olympics the key event every 4 years, and Commonwealth Games also a key event featuring a fair chunk of the primary teams in between the Olympics

i don’t see the point to be honest, especially in having the Word Cup and Commonwealth Games in the same year.

WR (World Rugby) could do a much better alignment of major tournaments if they’re going to persevere with all 3
