This is a good summary

"Prof. Peter Doherty

We currently have a clinical trial with Ivermectin in progress"

"Prof. Peter Doherty @ProfPCDoherty

We worked with Monash on the 1st experiments with Ivermectin that showed virus inhibition in tissue culture. The required dosage was high and there were concerns re toxicity. Our doctors have not been satisfied by the clinical trials that have been done and are not using it "

It has ethicacy in a test tube and they are still studying it,

It isn't the first time that experimental stuff is being used before totally approve in an emergency

FP, you've also got to keep in mind that many, many chemicals are efficacious against bacteria, or viruses, or cancer, in the test tube, and never make it to approval - because they're too toxic, or simply don't work in practice the way they work in a test tube. As Doherty says, the evidence to this point says it's not worth the risk. The trials that look positive for ivermectin are poor quality. Conversely, there's a tidal wave of high-quality evidence that the vaccines work remarkably well.

Hey, I have had my shots

But I think some of these ivermectin fans are never going to take their shots and will at least be de-wormed

But Doherty did say they are doing more studies - we will see if it works out, science is mostly finding out what doesn't work

Really? Not sure that applies to medicine.

Science is about finding what works until someone figures out it doesn't.

Science is about finding what works until someone figures out it doesn't.

I have a relative who is a PHD type specialising heart research, there is a lot of testing stuff to find out what works, what doesn't and at what level etc, as with the studies to find safe, effective levels of this thing (if any)

and then others have to try to replicate the results, it is amazing how many studies fall at that hurdle

Retraction watch is a great twitter thread that highlights just how much stuff gets knocked down

What I find most fascinating about science is that a theory can be used for decades or more, produce decent results and have practical application, and still end up being proven wrong (or less right, I guess).

We also have much better ways to treat COVID patients.

This is the bizarre thing about the people who start treating themselves with ivermectin when they already have COVID. Doctors aren't not using it because they're not allowed or because there's some leftist conspiracy. It's not being used because there's no evidence it's better than other treatments they have available to them.

For those that are taking ivermectin in the supposed idea that it decreases their chances of getting COVID, this is absolutely insane. Get. fucking. vaccinated.

Chairman Dan strongly positioning unvaccinated people on the outer in the coming months. Won't be able to get into pubs, museums, venues, cinemas etc etc etc.

Excellent.

They should announce that after a specific date only vaccinated people will be able to order their coffee extra hot.

That will get some of the boomers who are waiting for Pfizer over the line to go out and get AZ.

I've been recovering from surgery at my parents' place and they still have 70yo friends from educated wealthy families holding out for the mRNA vaccines.

Meanwhile at the Exhibition Building there was a 2 min wait for AZ shots, versus 1h+ for Pfizer.

We now know the main benefit of a vax is to minimise symptoms when you do catch the Wuhan Flu.
The vax doesn't stop transmission. Reduce chances of spreading and catching - yes. But stop? No.
Discriminating against people on vax status is wrong for so many reasons.

Does it stop transmission? No. Does it greatly reduce the likelihood of transmission? Absolutely yes.

Maybe, but I reckon it's right and appropriate for more reasons.

Also when you see how few ICU beds we have in Australia, I don't really want them full of anti-vaxxers when they had the choice.

Making perfect the enemy of good is about the main reason idiots will die from this.

There is a difference in the way vaccines operate, particularly as it relates to sterilising the virus itself. People who think they know better are welcome to do so, and welcome to stay the fuck at home in lockdown while I go to the pub.

This is a pretty good summary of what this stuff does for you by age
