Crusaders v Brumbies

This could be pretty interesting, Crusaders injuries mounting up, and Whitelock and Reece both out for a while it seems, and Brumbies look a fairly formidable outfit to me.

The Brumbies apparently resting their stars for this one...

The Crimes is paywalled, but it seems Ryan Lonergan will start on Friday.

he's been arguably their most influential player so far. Making a strong case for Wallaby selection

More on the Whitelock (hand, seeing a specislist todau) & Reece (knee, possibly season-ending) injuries referenced by @Dan54 & the CruSadists' overall injury situation;

"Whitelock and Reece join a list of players which includes fellow All Blacks David Havili (shoulder), Jack Goodhue (groin), Fletcher Newell (foot) and Will Jordan (migraine related condition).

"Newell, lock Mitchell Dunshea (chest) and hooker George Bell (foot) have been scratched for the season, while Quinten Strange (hamstring), Cullen Strange (shoulder), Finlay Brewis (shoulder) and Kemara (broken hand) are also rehabbing injuries."

Would have to make Brums firm favs.

Real Northern Hempisphere thinking from Bernie.

Not a bad tactic with the way the table is looking, specifically the Crusaders and Blues with two losses each, plus the mandatory Wallaby rest weeks

Won't be as bad as people think. Set piece shouldn't be far off what our best pack would serve up, noting that Kautai was a rock in AAAs absence last year. Big issue will be lack of ball carrying punch but we'll be going extremely hard at their breakdown between McInnerny, Reimer and Scott. Plan is presumably to turn it into a total sh1tfight for 60 minutes with some decent cavalry to come on off the bench. If the starters do their job we might be within touching distance at the end.

^optimistic take obviously, but I can see the rationale with enforced rest etc. Can't wait to see people pile into Noah if it doesn't come off.

Oddly enough I don't think it's a bad side. The only question marks I have are Wright at 4 and Cale at 8, but so far Bernie hasn't really put a foot wrong with his selections. Will be a great test for guys like Wright, Cale, Kautai and O'Donnell. Plus the bench is strong with L Lonergan, Ala'alatoa, Frost, Brown and Debreczeni all primed to add impact in the second half.

As a side note I'm excited to see how Scott and Reimer go together. Scott is a tackling machine and Reimer is a breakdown specialist so hopefully they will be working as a defensive combination (similar to Wilkin and Hardwick at the Rebels). I'm assuming Cale is good in the lineout, because if not the set-piece might struggle with only 2 primary jumpers.

At first I thought this might be a cricket score against the brumbies but looking now im not so sure.

My main concern at this point is who fills Valetini's role in attack. I feel the brumbies might have been better playing Brown in the starting side for this.

The defensive skill of that backline worries me after last week.

Wallaby Way

Herbert Moran (7)
Yes, large mid-field ball runners will be an issue without Valenti, AAA (Bench), Frost (Bench) and Slips/Sio.

Maybe Brums can hold on until the finishes come on as others have stated.

Larkham was quoted to say the strategy has been employed to deal with the multiple 6-day turnarounds over the coming weeks. I'd have preferred that they rested more against MP (Moana Pasifika) but we need to trust in the coaching & support staff's load management approach

Ikitau and Swain both injured...

I'm not sure what happened but Swain was in a moon boot last week.
