Give a review.

I shall not be attending as this game should be played at Riverview and not some local thugby league ground that has NO school atmosphere. The school is denying their own year 12 boys a chance to play the old enemy for a final time on their home soil, not some rent-a-venue.

Give me the tree lined amphitheater of Lane Cove, the cars parked on the hill, the fanatical View supporters, the Cerise & Blue Army, fathers at the BBQ, the sneaky beers in the car boot and the smiling mums at the canteen. This is what it is all about.....tradition and family.
How do you know the boys aren't just as excited to play in front of the biggest crowd that most of them will ever play in front of?

Anyone else see that Johnty Fowler was dropped from 1s? Anyone have an idea why as I thought he was pretty good but with their recent form…

TIPS TUESDAY!

View attachment 16227

Well you have seen some of the braver heads here explain their choices and margins.

Do you agree?

Will Kings trample the bagpipes, the Dragon breathe fire over the the Shore men and the Wild Wolves subdue the cattledogs?
So far not many have tipped Scots, Shore or Joeys. Do they know something you don't?

Get in now. Want to change your mind? You can, just message me before midnight Friday.

Tipping closes at midnight Friday.

Bit of a weird question, do the people who schedule the aagps rugby games schedule them based off who they think might be in the top 3 for the final round? Just weird that the top 3 likely teams (new, riverview and kings) all have home games for the last round.

Yes and no. It is different, Joeys and Riverview have a mutual respect that goes deeper than their rivalry, whilst known for their hatred towards each other they know they have a very similar culture. For 12-13 weeks of the school year both schools are consumed by rugby; play rugby, talk rugby, support rugby, watch rugby. And as such it is different to other GPS schools, and subsequently, majority of old boys and students alike think it is better, a better 'lifestyle' than any other school could produce.
wow, thanks for confirming my thoughts. Private schools which are virtually entirely white promoting the notion that their culture, religion and 'lifestyle' are better than others...no wonder there are elitism problems with some oldboys...not the real world

Every culture thinks like that to some degree. Bogans think Rugby League is the world's greatest game, Middle easterns think the same with soccer etc.

Last Day Tip Day

Some late love for tthe Joeys boys has come in since the news of a new and improved back line and the return of the toughest cattle dog of all.
Will these people be right?

PREVIEW: Riverview vs Joeys

Leichardt Oval is the neutral venue for the highly anticipated ‘Battle of the Catholics’ when Riverview ‘host’ Joeys.

This week Joeys have made some key changes to address the issues that beset them last week. In attack, the short passing game from their forwards was inaccurate, with high passes forcing ball carriers into contact too high – resulting in slow ball or turnovers. Compounding this, the backline then played too deep and moved laterally without threatening the line in the midfield. In defence, there was an unusual lack of energy and communication 1-2 passes from the ruck that led to line break opportunities, which the Newington No.10 accepted gratefully.

Ben Playford and Hunter Fogarty get their chance to shine together after excelling as a 2nd XV 10/12 combination across the past 2 seasons. With this change, and the return of the Energizer Bunny in Pat Young in the 7 jersey, this week’s team now has 5 forwards and 5 backs who came through the successful U13-16 A’s age group teams together – a familiarity in combinations which Riverview has also pieced together very well this year.

View will stick to the methods that has served them well in recent weeks. Competent set piece, a disciplined defensive system to shut down quick ball, and a patient attack that moves the ball from the point of contact. In number 7 (Benji Noble) they have an indefatigable breakdown nuisance, with No. 10 (Joe Dillon) making excellent decisions in his run-pass-kick options. With No.13 Liam Grover linking with his speed merchants in the back three, it is the accuracy and discipline of Riverview (and fitness to do it) that makes them difficult to beat. At the end of the day, ‘View are playing the style AND accuracy which Joeys themselves are seeking to play.

These Marist v Jesuits clashes rarely operate to the pre-game script. It is that fact which will make favourites Riverview nervous, and Joeys believe they have the ability and fitness to disrupt View in the forwards and beat them at their own game.

Forwards seem set? Bold statement. Ghattas plays 2, depending on injuries Massey would be 6 or 7, prior would likely be 1. Fonua will be 5.
Haven’t seen Massey all year is he injured? With also watching Ghattas he is not a hooker at all, saw their line outs against Newington and it was hopeless. Seems to be a better runner or the ball then set peice player.

Mate, you have absolutely nailed it in your preview. I think these changes will make a huge difference for Joeys. Big task in front of them but no one has got over the top of Joeys forwards yet this season despite their lack of accuracy in their go forward. If they re-watch that first half against Scots, the answer is right there - better body height in contact.
