Amazing win from Newington 1s at Joeys. Won 17-12 despite having nearly every call against them

Kings played for the whole 70 mins, that made the difference. Good all round team performance no real standouts for kings all were solid. For view they relied heavily on Dempsey 6 rorke 4 and Whiteley 8 who were the only bright spots for view. 12 - 10 kings

Newington beat Joeys 17-12. Lots of lost ball by Joeys and as stated before a pretty dodgy ref both ways, disallowing 2 Joeys tries which seemed to be fine and sin binning Milne and Ahovsivi in the first half. Only good thing for Joeys was they only lost by 5 plus Murphy and Sandell were both out. Moerea played and him and Milne were both very good in attack and defence. For Joeys Robertson had another good game but that was about it from a normally strong forward pack. Barclay and Wilde put there hands up for GPS spots with pretty solid games too. Now means that everyone bar Grammar has had and loss and win this season, all six teams are in it now.

Not sure if we were watching the same game, because from what I saw most of the major calls (i.e decisions on tries etc.) went towards Newington.

Yes tepai played and was the most influential on the field with taane. A few massive hits on 12 and 13 from joeys, completely outplayed them. The booklet was wrong Holey was fullback for 2s and vlahos was wing

The gps 1s centre pairing will be interesting, effectively Tepai has been MOM in 3 games with his main opposition for the accolade Milne. That's against current OZ schoolboy centre Stewart who he dominated and Foketi who many tipped to be Stewart's centre partner. As well as today by the sounds of it against Joeys. What chance Tepai and Taane getting the nod as the centre pairing?

IMO Barclay was as good if not better then them today, made pretty much every tackle against them and constantly fought his way through the defence. Foketi will be on the wing with Wilde, the two centre spots are still open though.

View's big name and big sized forward pack looked unfit and uninterested until the last 15 mins and King's smaller more aggressive and mobile pack dominated until then. Their scrum also dominated View's taking at least one tight head. King's loose three were outstanding especially Randle at 7. Don't agree about Dempsey and Rorke as they were both disappointing although Whitley can hold his head high particularly his involvement in the second half.
Whilst it wasn't a day for backs to shine Jones was all class for Kings and will more than likely be at 14 in the GPS firsts if he continues playing as he did today. Compared to Kings, New, Joeys and Scots, View don't seem to have a lot of potency in their backline and this may well be their weakness this year. If their forwards can play like they did in the last 15 minutes though they will be still be very much in the mix but as I understand it this is the second week in a row that they have failed to deliver over the whole of the game.
With New beating Joeys at Hunters Hill, Shore getting over Scots and Kings defeating View it seems that predictions of a very close comp in 2012 are spot on at this stage.

I know they're still only trials however from these games rep selections are made. To date we have had some tight tussles which is obviously going to make selections hard!
Can anyone lend any comments to the battle of the halves and centres. In particular I'm interested in hearing how Lussick and Milne faired against their equally talented Joey's opposition (from my understanding Moeroa was out).

Could not agree with you more CTPE. Those three just ooze class.
An interesting conundrum for Milne will be what he does if he is selected in the NSWRL U/18 team for 'State of Origin II'.
After all it is now getting to the business end of the rugby season as far as selections are concerned and in 2012 rugby has shown a tendency to snub those whose loyalty can be questioned! CHS certainly did last week at their selection trials!

Shore 10 over Scots 7 at Scots in a very wet, and understandably messy game.

Despite seeing Fletcher (2nd row) and Robertson (front row) return from injury, they were both sick, with Robertson coming off and half time and Fletcher unable to play at all, reducing the strength of the Shore forwards. However, they were still able to dominate the Scots pack, working extreme well together, with the major standout being Buckling at 8 (replicating his game last year in which he shut down Horwitz and the inside backs with some amazing and hard hitting defence).
As for the backs, Pulver lead the forwards well at halfback, Arnold defended well at outside centre and Davies looked strong in attack at fullback. Jack Clancy had an outstanding game at flyhalf and was extremely impressive as he outclassed his opposite Horwitz (in my opinion).
From Scots, none of the forwards stood out to me, however, from their backs, Kellaway looked extremely dangerous whenever he got the ball (his yellow card was a relief for all Shore supporters) and I noticed the absence of Jim Stewart, who would have had an impact no doubt if he had played.
Overall, it was a close game with lots of promise shown by both sides. As CTPE noted, the variety of results and upsets thus far should mean that the competition this year will be extremely close (a joint premiership is a possibility) as all sides have shown that they have the ability to beat any other side on any given day.
