For all those interested in real grass roots rugby, get along to Crozier Oval in Lismore Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March to see the cream of NSW Country rugby contest the annual country week carnival. Teams in the senior comp are coming from far and wide and include zones such as Central North, Central West, Illawarra, Newcastle Hunter, Central Coast, Far North Coast, Western Plains and New England. Similar number of zones will be competing in the U'20 tournament as well.
Round 1 of the carnival was completed last weekend with Newcastle Hunter accounting for New England, Central Coast just pipping Far North Coast, Central North upsetting Illawarra and Central West accounting for Western Plains. See the full report and details at http://www.nswcountryrugby.com.au .
After this carnival, the NSW country rep teams will be selected (Cockatoos) for the 2011 campaign.
So, whilst the Australian Club championship game may be being played at Ballymore on Sunday, the REAL championship match will be played in Lismore.:)

Noted that Newcastle-Hunter have retained their Country Champiobnship title following Championships held in Lismore over the weekend.
Also interesting to note that Central West won the Colts title, after eliminating Newcastle in the semi and then coming from behind to defeat Illawarra in the final.

Crozier Oval. Is that the home ground of Lismore City RUFC or the manin oval in town? Cannot remember to be honest, never really paid attention when I played for the Gold Rats.
