Qld Premier Rugby 2023

Love this!
Or could have the team on the bye being Brothers who play the Australian club championship as the final game

The brothers boys have scored the trip away to Sydney next year to play equally hated Randwick

But that’s a good suggestion. Club championship game for the bye week earner

Bond - missed opportunity in big games
Easts - young talent needs another year
Souths - look out 2024 if they keep that team
GPS - need to strengthen key positions
UQ - didn’t turn up most weeks
Sunnybank - not up to this standard
Norths - same story. Lack depth
An alternate view:
Bond - Consistent throughout 2023. Lacking in finals footie experience and stepped outside of their lane.
Easts - The REAL stars of 2023. Kept all others honest with an almost traditional brand of club footie.
Souths - Exciting and dynamic. Building their own brand of club footie
GPS - Disparate and tended to expect to win, rather than play to win
UQ - There was a UQ team??
Sunnybank - Needs Lucas brothers
Norths - Needs to not to be robbed of playing stock by big city/money clubs and GPS programs

Would anyone be willing to list a qpr first Xv of the year without 2023 super rugby contracted players.

I have to agree with the representation of the players from the top 4 clubs in particular.

Sunnybank and Norths will need to have strong preseasons for their individuals to be named next season.

Solid looking team there! I think Will Wilson has to be somewhere in the mix, he was solid all season and really stepped up over the finals

Liam Usher is name for the bulldogs in forwards

I would nominate Charlie Tupu from the bulldogs backs. Tupu was involved in attack or support on all of wests great tries this year and he tackles/pilfers really hard for a 13/winger.

Pio Nekubuwai (13 - Easts) was a standout for mine. Be interesting to see if he sticks with rugby or goes back to league. Also Jake Pappin (10 - Easts) is a real talent for mine also that doesn't seem to get the recognition. A lot of good talent around the clubs. Let's hope we can keep them here in QPR and give them recognition via a provincial tournament or the like.

Considered Gicquel at 7 but he only played the last 1/3 of the year versus Kohan Herbert who was one of the best of 2023 season.
Pilz was second in the player of the year awards so had to be there.
The Easts 13 is good. Sunnybank 13 also but contracted to Rebels.
Honourable mentions to O’Regan from Norths and Christian from Brothers. Both only 20/21. You could name a very strong under 21 team from QPR - contracted or not with HMP, Annan and Bryant from Souths, Ryan and Christian from Brothers, D Vaihu and M Gordon from Wests etc

Brothers were pretty average all year until Wilson, O’Connor and co came back. Can’t see that changing in 2024.

As the shadows of season 2023 lengthen, I cannot see much change in the contenders next year. Will UQ be back with a vengeance? I have heard the recruitment drive is strong.

Brothers don’t win the Hospital Cup without Wilson in the GF, similar to how Wests don’t win in 2022 without Uru in the GF.
How longs a piece of string?

If Brothers didnt have Christian at TH but still had Harry, they have no set piece and they lose - if Brothers had Harry and Christian but no Lawson, they also lose the GF.

West have Uru but no Eloff or Ben Navo they also lose the 2022 GF, so many scenarios its like running in circles - point being Rugby is a team sport they requires more than one player to get you over the line IMO. Obviously point of difference I get that but still sheesh.

JOC (James O'Connor), Flook played one game lol - need more than 1 win to get you over the line.
