It would be interesting to see the stats on GFs played in and percentage won - 3/5 is impressive. GPS obviously missed a number of opportunities with their 1/4. Uni went 3/3 in a five-year period, but then were doing a win one, lose one pattern over the last few years.
Maybe someone with more time and better excel skills than me will do the calcs on GF winning percentage.

I agree - would prefer to wish for Norths to succeed rather than join the knockers - Norths look like they are making good decisions. Colts doing well on the field and Premier Grade coaching group is well credentialed and demonstrates succession from colts to grades too. Presumably some colts graduating from their strong team in 2022 helps too. The criticism of the head coach is shallow imo - "one swallow doesn't make a summer" and the QRU have him in the u19 set-up so clearly he has supporters outside of Norths too. The off-field set up at Norths is one of the best in Brisbane - facilities are great and there is more community engagement and events there than any other club in Brisbane - this weekend they are holding an international seven's event and just finished hosting the BJRU seven's competition. No other Brisbane club has that capacity or delivers those sort of events as often as Norths...good for Norths - will be happy to see them improve up the ladder in 2023 .....

Yes. From 1986, when Souths won their first GF since 1958, to date they have appeared in 15 Grand Finals, winning nine.

Kelevi is a great coach and an even better person - coaching and playing gigs is not always about what you know, but who you know. Anyone willing to sacrifice their own unpaid time to help any club in whatever capacity is a winner in my book.

Apparently Kelevi went club shopping Brothers and UQ (weren’t interested) before he landed on GPS. To accomodate him they dropped a successful Reggies coach Nigel Hogan I think his name is (he was part of the coaching staff in the 2019 grand final win and the prelim final this year) - looks like he told them he was interested as I have heard he has landed a gig at UQ

This is true. And speaking with some decision makers at Brothers, he also tried getting himself to Easts who also weren't interested. The mail that Brothers got was that he was offered the same role at Norths next year as he did this year but spat it when he wasn't offered Head Coach. He was spotted at Norths the day of Reds Development game in deep discussion with Elton Berrange literally the entire time he was there. From all accounts, it didn't go un-noticed either.

Is it that surprising that he wasn't happy at Norths (like many before him) so he then supposedly sussed out other 1st Grade opportunities (like anyone else would) before going back to GPS to coach reserve grade? Fairly confident Kelevi's son is a GPS Junior and is a former GPS player and coach himself. It's not that strange of a decision. He certainly seems to have a better CV than the coach he is replacing. GPS comes out as a winner in the end by the looks.
