Solid team - Reds will give it their best shot. Pity though Seru Uru isn’t available - he’s great against the Drua ! That isn’t to say Joe Brial isn’t a good pick - he’s played so well - he’ll be great too.

I'm not sold on Tim Ryan this season, he gets bossed around a lot and has been somewhat poor into contact\ ball security.Reckon he needs to add a few kgs to be a constant at this level.
Would much rather see Filippo started.
Agreed - he has been found out with his defensive reads and has lost a lot of his contact battles with his lack of physicality/strength. Seems the weapons he had in his finishing/game breaking footwork have been nullified.

Classic second year syndrome, lets hope for a big off season in the gym and a big preseason. with flook back and Dre's breakout year he could be fighting for a bench spot at this rate.

We’ve also struggled to get him front foot ball in space to be frank. The play hasn’t really broken up around him to take advantage.

I’d say we are a slightly better team this year than last, notwithstanding injuries but getting our outside backs involved on offense has been a weak point for us this year. Campbell is a similar story and it’s only that Daugunu is so good in tight that he’s been able to impose himself.

This is close to the strongest team available, particularly with the backline.

I know it might take some time for Flook to get his groove back, but this is the group of players who really need to be performing and winning these games if the Reds are going to make significant leaps forward over the next couple of seasons.

These guys should be aiming up for a big bonus point win.

Especially considering it seems wing will be his best chance of a gold jersey this year. Agree - it's a head scratcher,

Get a nice 50-60 into Flook for confidence and fitness, let Daugunu have a bit of rest as well as he's done a mountain of work this season seems a pretty good choice.

Daugunu will start in Tests this year. He's shown enough that this won't hurt him.

Ryan is having a classic bit of second year syndrome but it's good he's played so much. He doesn't surprise anyone this season and that's not a fault of his. He'll develop much faster than being shoved into Club Rugby where mistakes aren't punished and he's not having to push it as much.

Ryan has definitely not shown the standard we expected of him after the brilliant run he had last year.

The different centre pairing we've put out there pretty much every week certainly hasn't helped him though.....

That being said, I'd like him to stack on a few more kgs of muscle in the off season if he can do that & keep his speed

It's not really his abilities with the ball in hand, nor his abilities under the high ball or kick returns. It just seems to me that he turns a lot of ball over going into contact and isn't dominant in any contact.
It seems Joe Schmidt was spot on in his assessments when asked last year about his Wallaby aspirations.
Needs to add some bulk. As others have noted, preferably without sacrificing his current positives.

That’ll be his biggest challenge. His change of direction was so lethal but can he do it with bulk. If he can it’ll take more time so I hope the reds keep throwing him a bone with game time.

Time. Just give him time to naturally fill out a bit more. I know Schmidt told him he needed development last year but you walk a fine line of losing your edge and injury chances go up.

He just needs to keep up with the S&C and lean into his strengths but doesn't have to hit it thinking I need to be 6kg heavier by the start of next year.

He's 21 a and probably in low 80kg mark. I see he's listed anywhere from 82-88kg depending on the site. By 23-24 he should comfortably sit in the 86-90 mark at most. Speed is force, so I'll take the fast winger any day over someone telling me how powerful and strong another guy is yet they cant put the foot down when needed. We all love watching Lomu highlights but more games have been broken open by raw speed plays than power.

Any idea how many of the 12 injured players are likely back for the Lions / Reds game? Gordon has retired from the game hasnt he?

Look, I really agree with this but... in D where the attacker has size and generally will be moving with more speed than the defender, at that point "Speed = force" is working against you. I agree that Tim needs to not lose his dynamism and speed. The second year was predictable, let's see how things go from here.

If he can nail good technique, positioningand the team has good structure he can be fine. He’s never going to be a 95-100kg Winger so it comes down to what we value. I personally like good footballers over physical specimens. They only get you so far
