And it's kickoff for a new Rugby team in Melbourne and a new comp on OZ. Not even gonna bother trying to pick form or anything like that, just hoping the rising get up for a win.

Be missing this one as I'm still in the air, but I'll be cheering from a Jetstar flight somewhere over Queensland.

Rising by 10.

Injury report. Only Seany Mac not considered due to his crazy workload.

Rays team named doesn't seem overly strong compared to what the Rising will likely name. One to watch might be Hamish Angus, recently awarded the best player in the Shute Shield for the 2nd time in 3 years, and he likes to run from anywhere.

Possible Rising team:
1. Toby Smith
2. Tom Sexton / Pat Leafa
3. PAE
4. Luke Jones
5. Cadeyrn Neville
6. ?
7. ?
8. Lopeti Timani
9. Nic Stirzacker
10. Jack Debrenzci
11. Tom English (if available)
12. Lloyd Johansson
13. Luke Inman
14. Telusa Veainu
15. Jonah Placid

16. Tom Sexton / Pat Leafa
17. Cruze Ah Nau
18. Max Lahiff (yeah, I realise both reserve props a LHPs)
19. Sam Jeffries
20. ?
21. Ben Meehan
22. ?
23. ?

Looks a lot stronger on paper than the Rays team to me, an entire Super Rugby forward pack, and half the backline, along with a couple of reserves. <edit> no Fugli, no Fainga'a, no Reid as all are injured for the NRC, so only nearly a Super Rugby forward pack! Massive hit for their potential back row, though

Of course, Lloyd could easily slot into 12, but that's my preferred/suspected, and I'm not gonna put into all the alternates.

highlander, i agree, i think this combo is pretty much the best currently available.

i think they will play jeffries and neville in the second row, the big redhead needs as much game time as possible for next year. i expect to see jones play a lot at 6, and mcmahon when available at 7. timani, if he stay uninjured for more than a minute, will likely be 8.

the backs pretty much pick themselves.

the Dewar Shield blokes will get plenty of game time over the 8 weeks simply because of attrition.

Where do you think those question marks are going to be filled from Dave? Cynical, snarky comment.

geez stop whinging

there will be at least 6 and more likely 7 -8 local players in the 23 each game. if you look at the names they will probably all be of PI descent, some born in victoria, others in tonga, samoa, fiji, new zealand and even other australian states

how many generations back would you like the rising to go and get local home grown talent ?

make your point again in 4 -5 years and if valid, all us locals will wholeheartedly agree, but this is the first year that home grown players, of which there have been quite a few, have not had to go elsewhere for development.
