Rugby World Cup 2019

Not too many household names there. Got a version with their clubs linked?

View it here.

Only Veremalua, Mawi, Lomani and Voka are Fijian-based (i.e. Rapid Rugby Latui).

All the rest are from Euro clubs (or between gigs for three of 'em).

It's a damn good squad: and I've seen a fair few remark that it might be the best assembled in the pro era, and while the majority of names might not be familiar to a SH audience, they're not short of quality by any means, and while that's expected in the back row and outside backs, it's very true of the locks as well, and Nakarawa is still my favourite player to watch in World Rugby. If the front row can hold their own, and the scrum halves release the backs (I love you Niko, but that probably means you miss out) they can be a serious threat.

2 years ago this guy was running out for reserve grade at Wests Bulldogs in Brisbane, before being picked up by Bordeaux in the Top 14. Great to see him now representing his country. Great bloke.

Oh, that guy? Wow. Fantastic story.

I'm adopting them as my second team.

so bummed at the lack of island flair on display in recent Pacific Nations cup matches. Tonga/Fiji/Samoa players almost all NH pros now and seem fully subscribed to the terminally dull safety-first bump and plop game-of-inches euro moneyball bullshit

That's a real shame mate. Some of the Fiji highlights that have filtered my way have been A+++. Their win over NZ Maori was fantastic

The hero narrative needs work.

A lot of work.

Overnight Ringinland destroyed Oirland 57-15 which is an impressive result BUT Ringinland have a horror draw: final two Pool matches are Argentina & France then it's QF (Straya or Wales), SF & Final v two of NZ, SA & Ireland. On successive weekends. Can't be done IMO. I reckon they'll win their Pool, scrape through a QF then lose badly in a SF due to being knackered and/ or having lost key players to injury.

hopefully now:
  • worlds greatest team Ireland are mentally shot in the brains and simper out at their usual 1/8 final juncture.
  • bloviating England so full of themselves that they rest on their laurels, neglect to do the shitwork, and shockingly exit tourney at group stage
