Um.. Elton Jantjies? Where are all the black locks.

NZL has got all the Whitelocks: Sam, George, Adam and Luke.

We have a few Blacklocks. Nathan Blacklock has gone back to mungoball after a couple of years at the Waratahs.
Meanwhile Aaron and Nick Blacklock are up and coming talent at the Mighty Parramatta 2 Blues in Shute Shield footy, and they are not available for Saffer duty.

2 out of the 4 engblish centres are noobs to test rugby? Mmm.... I thought in RWCs , the winners are typically highly capped teams

Shelts89

Tom Lawton (22)
True, but I doubt they will be the starters. Slade is probably a better 12 than Barritt, but plays 10 or 13 more often. So I suspect the starters will be Barritt and Joseph.

I'd certainly pick Slade over Barritt. I doubt Lancaster will, unless he has some stormers in the pool stages of course. From the squad my 15 would be:

1. Marler
2. Youngs/George (Who ever throws better in training)
3. Cole
4. Lawes
5. Launchbury/Kruis (depending on Launchbry finding some form after so long off)
6.Haskell
7. Robshaw
8. Morgan
9. Care/Youngs (neither are consistent enough to nail anything down)
10. Ford
11. Watson
12. Slade
13. Joseph
14.Nowell
15. Brown

The English squad looks strong but not as strong as it potentially could have been. Their centres dont exactly strike fear in your heart. Manu Tuilagi was a big loss imo. Likewise if there was 1 forward i would have preferred to avoid it would be corbisiero. His absence, along with Hartley's absence, makes their front row stocks slightly less intimidating. Still strong though

So Meyer doesn't pick Brussow, the best player vs NZ and has to settle for Kolisi. Fuck it would suck to be in his position.

have i missed it ? have the AB's named their 31 yet, i thought it was supposed to be last Sunday

Tomorrow at 5:30 NZ to be exact.

In the lead-up to the announcement the to-be-taken-seriously rugby media (i.e. NOT the Herald :)) speculation has three main strands:

Only three locks with Vito & Kaino standing in v the minnows, this to allow a seventh loose forward & justified by 4th lock Boric's lack of game-time last Cup;

Only two halfbacks with Slade standing in v one or both minnows, this to allow for an extra outside back; that being:

Waisake Naholo who'll possibly be fit for the third & subsequent matches.

I'm sure these things get leaked so that public reaction can be gauged & the formidable PR machine pre-primed, but I'm equally sure there's always a red herring in there as well. My guesses are three locks yes, two halfbacks no (so no Slade, either) & Naholo also no as the initial "miracle recovery" story hasn't really been followed up on.

Toby Robson generally has pretty good sources, here's his 31:

Backs: Ben Smith, Julian Savea, Nehe Milner-Skudder, Charles Piutau, Malakai Fekitoa, Conrad Smith, Ma'a Nonu, Sonny Bill Williams, Dan Carter, Beauden Barrett, Lima Sopoaga, Aaron Smith, TJ Perenara, Tawera Kerr-Barlow.

Forwards: Dane Coles, Keven Mealamu, Codie Taylor, Owen Franks, Charlie Faumuina, Tony Woodcock, Wyatt Crockett, Ben Franks, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Luke Romano, Victor Vito, Liam Messam, Jerome Kaino, Sam Cane, Richie McCaw (c), Kieran Read.

I haven't been onto their forum but PlanetRugby's front page is going off already, much of it unfavourably, take this guy for example:

"quotas rear it's ugly head, predictable, and dispicable, GO ALL BLACKS, screw the quota boks, and i don't care if it's only two quotas, one is too much"

Unbelievable that Brussouw would be left out for a no name. Not cricket
Brussouw is like a Pocock, hard and strong over the ball. Gaining penalties or the turnover. In RWC finals, the penalties are gold
