Summer cricket 2022/23

I know there's provisions in the Laws & regs for players to be replaced in the event of circumstances beyond their control arising during a match, but to my mind Kane Williamson, having missed Day 1 to attend a funeral, shouldn't then be able to amble in on Day 2 like he'd been there the whole time.

Wonder where Renshaw is at following this tour. Feel like this was his chance as tough as it is. Age is on his side still but he’ll need to get runs in the SS when he gets back to be a chance of the Ashes Squad

Another astonishing last day performance from NZ, winning by two wickets off the last ball of the match with a bye. Keeper threw down the wicket at the non-strikers end but Williamson made his ground to finish 121*.

Edit: New Zealand 373 (Mitchell 102, Henry 72, Asitha 4-85) and 285 for 8 (Williamson 121*, Mitchell 81, Asitha 3-63) beat Sri Lanka 355 (Mendis 87, Karunaratne 50, Southee 5-64, Henry 4-80) and 302 (Mathews 115, Tickner 4-100) by two wickets

This test summer in NZ has been awesome. What a bonkers last day. Certainly a lot better than the snore fest at Ahmedabad.

Kane Williamson has today gone past 8,000 Test runs & has stats very similar to the great Sir Garfield Sobers:

Williamson 8098 runs in 94 Tests at 55+, 28 hundreds

Sobers 8032 in 93 at 57.78, 26 hundreds

In his innings of 189* he’s also gone past Mark Waugh (8029) & could realistically overtake Boycott (8114), Warner (8158) & Pietersen (8181) should he make it to 206, 249 & 272, respectively. Maybe Captain Southee will hold off declaring long enough for him to surpass BMac's NZ record 302?

Edit: made 215 so "only" passed Boycott. At some point I'll work out where he stands average-wise in the 8000+ list.

Edit: I think he comes in fifth:

Steve Smith 8792 @ 59.81
Sobers 8032 @ 57.78
Sangakkara 12400 @ 57.41
Kallis 13289 @ 55.37

Henry Nicholls, who hadn't got past 40 in over a year, also got a double - 200* when Southee declared at 580/4. That's the first time two kiwis have made 200 in the same Test innings. SL 26/2 at stumps so NZ have two days to take 18 wickets (forecast for Day 5 is pretty awful).

Only caught bits of the ODI's but a positive result across the board. Building depth in that squad. If Starc can hold his form we are a red hot chance at the WC with Zampa being so consistent at this level.

Aus A v NZ A is going well for Aus right now. NZ 6-68 before lunch.

A lot of guys I haven’t heard much of for Aus. Buckingham bowling really well.

Hope Bancroft can get some runs before the home summer.
