U16 schoolboy rugby

Still uncontested scrums for the Scots 16A's. Has this team ever contested a scrum? and if not, can a forward be selected for GPS U16's honors without demonstrating proficiency in this aspect of the game. And more importantly, what are the duty of care considerations if a player is selected without proficiency at scrum time.

Did seem pretty woke, but with a prop out first 5 minutes and another out for concussion difficult to compete with a full strength Kings pack.

I also caught part of the 16A Waverley vs Scots and Scots scrummed well, hopefully they are competitive this season.

I think it would be silly to look past some of Scots forwards, there is real talent, and it’s not one’s fault their peers can’t scrum!

Not completely true. There were several games last year in U15 with competitive scrums vs Joeys, Riverview (for most of the game) and Shore. Plagued by injuries last year. This same Scots team also never played Newington U15 in the comp season before heading to next Glengarry intake (other than a short trial game). Several injuries already this season which has made fielding a front row challenging. Scrums were competitive vs Waverley.

U16A Scots was very unlucky losing on the weekend with 2 converted tries. Kings had 3 penalty goals and a single (and very dubious) try …ref awarded the try to Kings irrespective of immediately prior obstruction (which should have been a penalty), followed by a knock-on and a double movement to get the ball over the line (again penalty and not a try).

They have been scrumming for a while, and even against Waverley (trial game 2), they scrummed extremely well and I believe even won a defensive scrum, against a very big (triangle scholarship) pack of Waverley. An injury to a prop in the first 5 minutes, and another injury to the other prop soon after is gonna result in uncontested scrums, they are only 15/16, relax.

Let's focus on the fact that this Scots team beat Kings 50-0 in every team, every game in year 7 and 8, and then all of a sudden Kings have new players and start doing well in year 9?? That's weird. How come Scots is the only team that has a full team consisting of players who've been there since year 7? Every other school has shipped some new ones in?

Seriously... The Scots 16a Rugby have constantly been a strong forward with size and strength. With both usual props out, obviously, they would struggle to scrum considering that props are needed? Can we please stop and understand that they can't count out the important players such as Angus Folsom and Joe Hatton, who are great players with massive potential, plus the number 9 Sam Dunn is almost an automatic selection with an extremely crispy pass and strong defense

Sam Dunn is definetly one to look out for, even with is pasifika islander backround.

If he were paired with a great first receiver for the GPS team, such as Cooper Stevenson or Finn Hannon they would be extremely hard to stop, especially with his amazing kicking game

Kings have beaten this Scots team for more times. Scots haven’t scrummed against Kings in this age group for at least the last four times they’ve played. They should have been made to drop a player last Saturday.

Before you start blaming referees for a loss learnw hat the actual rules are. Obstruction is also a pretty grey area generally these days.

I agree with you but in this scenario, do you think it's fair to award a try after they were crawling along the floor and jumping off the floor for a try? After he was tackled?

Maybe you should check your rules. Once tackled, you cannot roll, crawl or bounce. I think the Kings player managed to do all 3 before going in for his meat pie....
