They'll watch some Tests (and mostly complain about the state of the game that is played) but few seem to watch any Super rugby. Interestingly they are more likely to watch club (esp those with a playing affiliation) or schools rugby (because of kids there). Despite having Stan, I watched far less Super and Test rugby last year than usual. And I think I'm pretty rusted-on. It's not a good omen for the professional game in this country.

I've been the same. In the past I would avidly watch all Super Rugby games every week. Then it was just the Australian games, no Kiwi derbies. Then it was All Reds games, and all Aussie derbies. Last year, mostly just the Reds.

I have been watching more club though.

Dru, I'm with you on the NZ derbies now - very little interest in them. But I still try to watch every game involving an Aus Super Rugby side so that I can get a balanced (ha ha) view of teams, players and potential Wallabies.

To be fair I think it's still a very current debate after Foley's inclusion last year and the prospect that he is possibly our 10 come the RWC. Especially in light of the fact that we don't seem to have settled on our preferred 10 and/or are contending with that preferred option being unavailable or undercooked come the RWC.

I can already see all the moaning and groaning that will occur if Eddie picks Foley as his man. :)

He also gives up an incredible amount of his own time to try and support rugby. I know part of it is with the Classic Wallabies and I assume there is some sort of remuneration there but I’ve found he is always very generous with his time and is good value across any age group - juniors to seniors. Very good guy from my experience.

In addition to this don't forget that EJ (Eddie Jones) was also sacked and will be getting paid out by the England and that may have come into the negotiation so its not inconcievable that we may be getting the benefit of that which allowed them to do the deal this year. His pay out plus no noncompete clause in his contract opened up a pretty appealing opportunity to strike and I'm confident that the blokes on our side are astute business to take advantage of these things.

I find the kiwi derbies faster paced and more skillful than the Australian ones, so would say I enjoy them more.

I'm emotionally invested in some Australian sides obviously so tend to gain more feeling from some Australian matches.

I view the competition as a collection of teams tho, not as an Australia versus new Zealand competition so just watch and go for teams I happen to like and enjoy. No different to the views expressed in *that* thread from 2011.
