Wallabies v England November 1

If not Edmed in this test, then who? JOC (James O'Connor) (James O'Connor) unavailable, Lynagh injured, Lolesio injured, Meredith injured and Donaldson not in the squad.
Yes, of all those I’d say the Meredith injury was most crucial.

side edit - the post was fine without mention of him, as far as I’m aware he has never been in Wallabies contention outside your world

Uh huh

I think the Edmed hate relies a little too heavily on a slightly unrealistic view of the alternatives. The fact is Australia hasn't had a reliably good flyhalf since Larkham.

Beale, Foley and Cooper only ever produced rocks and diamonds in varying proportions. At this stage, Edmed is a bit more rocks and lab-grown sapphires, but I don't think it's realistic to think that Donaldson or Debreczeni would be a noticeable improvement.

I think Williams probably plays his best test footy off the bench. With that I’d be going with LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Frost to start. Hooper at 6 and Bobby off the bench to go all out in the 2nd half. Bell too looks like he’s struggling a bit off a big year. Wouldnt mind seeing him come off the bench for some strong carries against tired bodies.
Is JAS moving to inside centre completely off the table? Didn’t think Hunter was all that great at distributing the ball last night and from what I’ve seen from JAS he looks more than capable at it. Kinda denies him space where he looks most threatening though. Len will play next week anyways.
Very interesting Major, I think you are right, he has played a few tests now, and the 13 role is a big ask, but he's a big unit with good hands and awareness. Not sure Schmidt will move him, we'll see what happens at the Tahs.

I don't understand why you wouldn't look at the law I quoted two pages ago , and the screen shot, before arguing with me

The law says nothing about regaining your feet
Wasn't arguing that, all I stated was that following a tackle you must release the ball. Then you can get to your feet and play on...Getting to your feet is not a rule it is a general description of the game, ie the game is to be played on your feet...At least it was when I was a ref.

No, it relies on the fact the team has looked bad ever since he came in. The First Argentina win was in spite of him, played badly in the 2nd Argentina Test, bad vs NZ and bad vs Japan. We have gone backwards

It’s baffling because Donaldson was in the team that actually beat England last year, he helped set up the winning try. He also played 50 minutes on the only Lions Test we actually won

We got told he has been banished because of defence yet we just watched Edmed’s effort on the Alex Michell try and it was diabolical

OK. Just to be sure, are we talking about the England try? Because he wasn't tackled in that movement. And he got up with the ball to dive over the line

I think the problem here is the understanding of a tackle in the laws. You are tackled and have to release ball when your knee/s hit ground while someone is tackling you and they still in contact with you.

It was fine. Pollock was ankle tapped not tackled whereas hunter was quite cleanly tackled and just kept crawling.
I like the energy and effort that Paisami brings (particularly for the reds) but he just has too many errors in his game for test footy.

Yeah, it's not who. It's HOW. And our how for now plays everything from 9. Do you think any European opposition has missed it?

We have a game plan that is 100% rocks. The issue is not the 10 that we have, it is the game plan they are put into.

SA beat Japan by 54 away from home, yes they played a stronger side but we beat them comfortably in Joburg and competed to the end in Cape Town with 15 injuries - we’ve fallen off a cliff since Townsville

We looked like a team that hadn't played together for 4 weeks.
Im not as down on it as others but it wasnt a great performance.

My thoughts:
- Paisami isnt a 12 at this level. I think with Ikitau that game would have been much closer and our outside backs would have got more ball. We looked better when JAS was playing in the 12 channel towards the end
- Stewart is clearly a massive stop gap for a bench 10
- Edmed had a few WTF moments but was fine in the context of a wallabies 10
- Our forwards looked off their game with ball in hand, we were getting monstered
- McReight was awesome
- All of our issues are fixable

Paisami played pretty well and did his role, besides the late penalty for crawling it was a good game from him IMO.

Ikitau obviously a class above, but Paisami was getting over the gain line regularly and taking pressure off Edmed when defence was rushing, he isn’t the reason the outside backs weren’t getting clean ball. Look closer at the halves for that one.

My concern pre-game is that we're missing too many key players, and it really showed...

In the forwards Skelton and Hooper both add a lot more starch to the pack, and Gleeson is usually pretty impactful off the bench...

Valetini is still returning to his best, and an off season can't come soon enough.

Although I thought our starting backrowers were three of our better players on the field... McReight especially.

And without McDermott, Ikitau and Wright we're missing three of the best creative backline players in the squad...

And on top of that our two first choice flyhalves have been injured, and there's a drop down in quality there.

Don't make stuff up, the qoute, was not defence, it was defence organisation. Much harder to quantify while looking at it on TV, but if you're going to quote something, make sure you get the context right.

We say they’re fixable but they seem to be ongoing
