Rugby's star system came under scrutiny recently when Fairfax rugby writer and Offsiders panellist Georgina Robinson revealed high-profile players were being paid partly through the Australian Rugby Foundation (ARF), which allowed businesses to make private tax refundable contributions to player salaries.
RA robustly defended this practice, which it claimed was commonplace across Australian sport, although the ARF payments are markedly different than the NRL's third-party agreements, which are (at least notionally) transparent promotional deals that don't raise questions about unseen access and influence.

No, I disagree with your point.
I don't believe Andrew Forrest is going to "save" Australian rugby, nor was he ever. He had an agenda with the Force, and fair play to him, but the oft repeated $50 million "offer" was highly conditional, and why would a national body accept those terms. It was a big gesture, a popular gesture, but he knew that there was almost no chance that he would have had to follow through on it.
GRR so far has been somewhat underwhelming.
Most of the other issues have existed for years, and are endemic within Australian rugby. Expecting seismic changes in the time she has been there on most of those is laughable. Especially given the parlous financial state of things.
The Folau issue is of his making, and his alone. If he abides by some simple conditions, it's a non-issue.
All of this IMO.

One of the things which has landed Australian rugby in its current predicament is the desire for homogenised good news, often delivered by compliant journalists who are essentially an extension of the ARU/RA public relations process.

The pathetic irony of Clyne's comments today gave me plenty to chuckle about, as does Castle's continued reference to a former employee working with a PR firm. As if RA don't.:)

Reds look stacked, Rebels and Brums have some promising talent and the Tahs a little thin. But on saying that you only need 2/3 genuine players from a crop to make a real difference.

who the hell is Daniel Boardman he's picked in the QLD team? Never heard of him.

Put McNamara at fullback and Lucas at 12 (or swap with Stewart at 10) and then someone like Will Eaddie on the wing.

Very good question. I'd go for bias/blinkered views of many Fox commentators.

Considering how many of them were blathering on about Quade's great play in latter games, which, by any detached analysis, was pretty mediocre, I'm not surprised in some of their selections. Some of them saw some early season games, when he was genuinely quite good, and parked it there. It doesn't really show a critical eye.
