I’m saying the penalty for the action is dumb and disproportionate.

Deliberate acts of cynical play in rucks are let go all the time, only time it’s a yellow is if it’s in the red zone, or if it’s repeated offences.

No other act of play is penalised as harshly as an attempted intercept, it’s ridiculously disproportionate to the ‘offence’.

Last try, they are carding the cynical stopping of an serious attacking opportunity, later in the game he carded a cynical ruck infringement that stopped a serious attacking opportunity

Without that clear and obvious attacking opportunity it is just a penalty

Most ruck infringements are resets in phases, not clear and obvious attacking opportunities so they get just the penalty

I didn't argue the decision on the field, only that I hoped he wasn't kept out of the game too long for something that on evidence is an abnormally of action for Bell.

Yeah, the best location was always going to be whichever government was willing to pay the most and that has clearly been Victoria. With the couple of years they've had event-wise it's easy to see why they were the highest bidder.

In the future Suncorp offers the same or similar availability and would almost certainly offer a boost on crowd numbers, assuming the QLD government maintains their general willingness to bid for big events. I imagine they decided to cool it this year after a bumper couple of years over covid though. Perth could be an option but time zones would mean the games have to be played earlier in the day which would potentially hurt crowd numbers and restrict the number of rounds in the season when the weather would be cool enough. Sydney is probably only going to be an option before the NRL season starts but the NSW government might just go hard for it to help justify the new stadium. I doubt Canberra will be in the conversation until they get a new or upgraded stadium.

There'd be plenty of availability and hopefully solid crowds in New Zealand, but unless the government is willing to pay for it I don't see it being hosted anywhere in New Zealand anytime soon. Time zones might also complicate things for NZ, as Australian broadcasters will still want Friday/Saturday primetime games, which might be too late for crowds (and local government stadium noise curfews).

If there's investment in facilities Fiji could be a smoky in ~5 years, but that would likely require Australian and/or New Zealand government funding to stack up. That's definitely not out of the realm of possibility with the way things are going in the pacific though. Wouldn't be amazed to see a neutral venue like Tokyo, Singapore or Hong Kong bidding for it in time, but crowd numbers would probably have to lift across super rugby first to justify it for them.

Apparently it’s a NZ owned venture that approached Victoria for it, so you know, people can go off at them.

Yeah, and it was the NZ teams that sold their home games, so any fault belongs on that side of the Tasman, and any complaints when NZ don't get it will again be on NZ.

I said before and still say again, do it in Aus again next year, and hopefully early when they wanted it, before other sports start. I just think it a good promo for game in Aus!

^ it being a commercial venture presumably someone judged that Melbourne was the better option financially. Maybe they were right, maybe they were wrong but ultimately it was their call to make & figuratively speaking they & only they live or die by that call. Or is there something deeper I'm missing here?

Don't forget fellas the games were meant to be played in Melbourne in Feb, so I think it was better time to have it, before other winter sports were being played, so I think Melbourne would of ben a good place. Next year? I said I think it should be in Aus early as they wanted this year, not sure if Suncorp would work, so maybe somewhere in Sydney?
