Interesting comments from Eddie about aussie rugby organisations being a bit loose with information and leaks. He's been actively giving out info to see who's the leak, alright George Smiley. Also said it in part response to his visit to the Rebels? Maybe they're the problem.

For some reason Eddie wants Asofa Solomona, he played rugby in NZ all his life as second row and backrow. I agree that most of League can't play in specific positions like tight-five but in terms of athleticism they are monster and I bet most of them can beat/match Aussie Super Rugby players in physicality

If you take a young Corey Parker or Matthew Scott and put him in a rugby pathway. Why wouldn't they be good Rugby Union forwards?
Funny but when Brad Thorn came to rugby and was asked what gave him biggest surprise, he said how much bigger players are in rugby. Never really noticed as I never watched league, but always remember that comment, as well as RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) saying how much more tackling he has to do in rugby (that could be position related anyway)

RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) tackling would just be positioning related, he was a fullback in league making <5 tackles a game.

League centres and halves can make 20 tackles a game.

Thorn was on the smaller side in regard to height for the 2nd Row but he brought the RL Forward work rate and hardness that isn't present in most Rugby. He's a genuinely hard man. Rugby have built up 'hard men' like Bakkies who built a rep through being a thug. I worry Asofa Solomona would be sin binned in most Rugby games the way he plays League now.

I'm surprised RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) hasn't been used on the Wing IMO. He's fast enough (as fast as Horne when he was a Wallabies Winger) good under the high ball and would be a nightmare from close range because he pretty well built. Seems like a stronger fitter Milner Skudder

Well the Blues have Clark and Telea - no way he's better than either. They also have Lam & Heem.

That's true and pretty obvious. Luther Burrell lost something like 7 kilos when he made the switch to League

In the forwards packs the difference is bigger cause League forwards run so much

I quite liked Horne cause he was a Tah but TBH he played at the wing for the WBs in a poor Era.

Play in a position where players like Campese, Tuqiri or Sailor played before, it was an emergency button. He could have been a good defensive centre like Pat McCabe but that's all

RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) could play at the wing for Georgia, not for the ABs. They have hundreds of faster options there

Horne was a very good player who had AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) in front of him at the Tahs but they got him into the team because he could handle it.

As I said RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) is fast enough for it. He’s not Habana sure but he brings different weapons. I’d love to see who’s win in a race between him and Caleb Clark. Sevu Reece has just been ruled out.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-...for-Sua'ali'i-s-services-20230331-p5cx6y.html

Sydney Rugby Union hosted its Shute Shield launch this week at NSW Rugby headquarters before Saturday’s opening round.

While most of the talk revolved around a fascinating season, there was one other topic on a number of people’s minds.

While it’s highly unlikely Sua'ali'i will play club rugby, as is the way in the modern game, officials are fascinated to see where he ends up, given his Penrith roots and connection to western Sydney.

When Israel Folau came to rugby in 2013, his official club was Sydney University. The Waratahs and Wallabies fullback never played a game for the Students.

Sua'ali'i’s manager, Isaac Moses, did respond to the Herald’s enquiry on a choice of club team, but there is plenty of chat about whether the Roosters star will pick a club out west or one closer to the coast.

“I have a view [but] I don’t have control,” Waratahs coach Darren Coleman said. “He is a drawcard and he’s a western Sydney boy. Rugby needs promotion and help in western Sydney. It makes sense he goes to a western Sydney club.”

It does make sense that Sua'ali'i should be tied to the club most aligned to his upbringing in the game, and being involved in the premier club competition in the country that is... the John I Dent Cup.

If RA and NSW don’t have a Two Blues Polo shirt sitting in his kit bag they have made their first mistake.

I’m sure Folau got so much out of his time with Uni.

Does any kid really get inspired to start playing the game because a guy is aligned with the local club? I can definitely see the lure of inspiring kids to want to play for the Waratahs because it’s on tv and they earn money but I just don’t see many kids inspired by people at this level. If he were to make an appearance every 2 years, then align him to the place that will benefit from the extra 100 beers sold on the one day.

Not sure if it‘s true anymore, but apparently a legacy of the game going professional was a RUPA requirement that RA/Super Rugby teams couldn’t dictate which club players played at. It reflected the balance of power at the time.

I remember Turinui saying this on a podcast only a few years ago. Doubt it’s changed

Really hard to answer but it can’t hurt. I’d say a guy like Suallii can definitely have a positive impact on a local area if he was to be at a session or spruik the club. It’s a time where social media can be a positive with kids and young star athletes.

He'll go to Randwick or Easts and there's nothing wrong with that.

Ideally, you'd want each player going to their closest club.
