Reds v Waratahs in Townsville

Does this really matter?

Do the Shute Shield teams really know players are going to be available well before the side is announced or are they just going on the basis that they probably will be available?

Does anyone know the club rugby training schedule? Shute Shield teams were announced yesterday. Do they train on Tuesday or Wednesday night and those players would have already been told they could attend training because they aren't likely to be in the Tahs 23 so they have let their clubs know?
I think generally yes, it is a solid indicator.

I think (Shute) teams are usually decided on Tuesday night after medical teams give assessments, the Super rugby guys probably know on their Tuesday day training (Wed usually day off for both Super and club) and probably inform the Shute club who sends teams in on a Wednesday

Almost picked it, but for Petaia staying at 15. Very happy to see Uru hopefully getting a crack in the backrow from the bench.

Usually not an Andrew Webster fan. I think his writing is very whingy and know it all but this quote is very accurate

"In better times, NSW and Queensland matches attracted huge crowds, TV ratings and media interest. They play each other in Townsville on Saturday night, sources have confirmed."

I'd love to know if the game has been heavily pushed in North Queensland because I've felt zero build up which is a shame as this game will have a big impact of either sides finals chances.

Yeah I agree, whilst the whole festival of hate thing more recently has been tongue in cheek and was a little toxic in yesteryear amongst us fans, at least it is a little more than the festival of forget we have now.

It is a shame because the what struck me watching the last round was how passionate the players are representing their states.

I can't speak to what it's like in Townsville but from Brisbane it looks.like the Reds have been doing heaps of media - Luke Jones and Wilson Blyth have been on the radio, flipping burgers at maccas and manning guns at Ross island barracks. There was also a fair bit earlier in the year around the season opener up there.

I'm hopeful the media blitz, it being the big interstate rivalry and the Reds in the super w final beforehand will all add up to a big crowd, but I'm not as confident as I'd like. From a marketing perspective it's a bit of a pity the tahs women didn't make the super w final to sell the complete double header.

With all of that going on it is a marketing cluster F - it should have been in Brisbane.
