Slipper in doubt and Tupou maybe too risky to play this game. Gibbon and Ala'alatoa to start with Nonggorr off the bench in 18, but is there anybody to fill the 17 jersey? Have been saying since the side was first announced that they are short one fit prop.
However, all will be ok if Bell is fit, but that must be uncertain and I'm not sure he's even with the squad.

Holloway IMO seems like a "sure thing": we know that if required he'll slot into 6 and run the lineout show no worries, but EJ (Eddie Jones) will want to see if he can trade some of that assuredness at line out for more dynamic carrying, it needs to be tested now or never to have time to revert back if it doesn't.
I do wonder whether this first game is a bit of an all of nothing opportunity for a couple of players in terms of making the RWC squad.

Yeah, I think a few of those fringe guys, particularly ones with players in their position in the rehab group are going to need to take their first up chances against SA (and possibly Argentina) to have a shot at the world cup. Particularly Vunivalu, Nonggorr and Uelese. I think Faessler, Gordon and Tom Hooper might get a bit more lee-way though.

Surprised about the lack of annoyance here for the weakened team the Boks have left us to face.
Pretty disrespectful. I understand circumstances of RWC year, wanting to test combinations etc. but if 13 front-line Boks have already travelled to NZ in prep for the next test, that's quite bad and also hurts the RC as a competition and brand.
It'll be pretty devastating to lose to these guys considering that as well.

That's it, rolls into Argentina in Sydney, NZ at MCG, NZ at Dunedin, warm up game against France in Paris, then the pool matches, quarter final against Argentina, semi against a battered Ireland, steam roll into a grandfinal against some bunch of posers then home for a victory lap by end of October.
