[Eyes and Ears]

On Saturday, I've heard that the Newington 14B is playing Scots 14C, while Scots 14B are playing Grammar 14A.

Bit of a weird one, but I can't confirm, as I am obviously not a student, but maybe Grammar has a good future? Normally they play the C's I thought.

Grammar 13As and 14As are too strong for C teams. Grammar 14As beats Joeys by 20, Riverview by 50, High by 40, Shore by 60 and Kings by 70. I believe the 13A margins have been the same or larger.

This is completely untrue. Good numbers for sure. Had the away stand full but not close to more. View would have had more boys sitting outside of the stand than in it.

Kings have good support for all sports unlike some that only show up for 1 when the wins are coming.

Completed agree. I have a son who goes to every game whether home or away for Kings. It is a core of boys who attend and would be about 10% of the school population. The view kings game at view was for the premiership and the turn up was loud but small. Last year the away games had even less so add the extra numbers for the winning side

a perfect example is the last kings home game against new. Compulsory for all boys to attend either the soccer or rugby. I would say they had less than a 1/3 of the school watching. And here come the disbelievers. Find a video of the entire school on parade for the cadet parade and plus the stand full of those boys not involved in cadets and see the sheer number of boys at the school and compare to what you usually see in the stand

It is disappointing but you can’t force culture and the school itself no longer tries to enforce it unless it is an old boy day like this Saturday and they try to convince the old boys it still exists(all smoke and mirrors)

my lad plays in the backs in the Shore 16Bs and they have a good bunch of blokes that have pretty much played since the 13s. The coach is a young old boy who teaches private equity at the school and the boys all respect. Beating KIngs and Joeys was a highlight but Scots seem to have the best Bs team in the 16s from what I've seen. The Shore 16Cs have suffered from a lot of schools not wanting to play them (New for example) so they have had byes or played knox bs for example.

I think Scots 16B's are always really strong due to when Glengarry occurs in Yr 9, some boys who might normally be playing in the C/B teams, they might play in the 15A's against really strong A's teams and playing with the talented A's blokes. Not only that, but getting smashed 50-0 every week teaches them how to lose and I think that's why the 16B's have been undefeated for 5 years in a row I think. (not sure but they were last year).

Little bit off topic here, but congrats to old boys Lalakai Foketi, Max Jorgensen, Angus Bell, and Andrew Kellaway on their selection in the Wallabies 2023 RWC side.

Goes to show just how talented the AAGPS comp is.

Where did Foketi go to school? Amazing Max Jorgensen, no wonder some of the GPS teams had trouble handling him 12 months ago.

On the topic of 16As, what has been the most exciting/closest game of the season?
Joeys v Newo last week was very skillful with big contact hits, that i had the privilege to attend.
Shore v Scots ended in 14-15 very tight and class game.
Shore v Newo came down to a kick from the sideline inwhich hit the crossbar to tie it up.
Kings v View was a bit of a blowout and complete class from the View boys.
Interested to hear your views on which is the best.

Absolutely agree with you,
Young Sam (falks I think they call him) was devastated by a knee dislocation in the 2nd game of the season which unfortunately kept him out of footy until his return a couple of weeks ago at shore where on return was running a muck all around the paddock using his size, skill and high footy IQ. Excited to see what Samuela can do as he develops and looks to play high opens next year. Let's hope he can slow down his hair loss process.

I'm amazed at the increase in size over the past 30-40 years, back then you'd get a few kids up around or into the low 90's kg's and a freak every now and again over 100, average weight must be up 10kg's at least. There's a lot of backs over 90 kegs these days for a start.

View Joeys 2021 at view is an overlooked game. View get off to a large lead, joeys come back to lead in the second, view score an absurd amount of phases after the buzzer (20+ I believe, does anyone know the actual number?) Great game of footy, similar to view barker that same year.

Definitely a great game of footy! Do you or does anyone know if the game was recorded and where it could be rewatched? Cheers

Went to SHORE school from years 5-10, then moved to Barker to play Opens footy.

Should be a great game tomorrow in the 16Bs, View would be the strongest from my view but Shore have been trending upwards recently, excited to see a good game with some kids looking to prove themselves for opens footy next year.
