The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

Wonder what the conversations with McKellar were like.

Two options for me now. Not necessarily what I want but what I think we’ll get.

1) Larkham

2) Old Babysitter (White) until the end of the Lions 25’ and then they go after McKellar or hope things are looking better and have settled and other options are genuine that will take us to the World Cup.

My neighbour, a Kiwi who knows a lot about New Zealand rugby, complained bitterly when Foster got the job, and never stopped complaining. He told me that the players did not respect Foster.

Why are people ruling out Dan? Not that I think he should be wallaby coach.
He says I’m 100% staying and I’ll let you know if that changes.

there’s no way he’s been formally approached about the role so why say anything else?
Exactly, that interview sounded a lot like he was trying to sound committed without ruling himself out

And yet they reportedly made a pitch to keep Foster to the board last year when they were considering firing him.

When you say ‘knows a lot about New Zealand rugby’ are you implying he is well connected or just that he watches a lot of Super Rugby and NPC?

I've previously expressed my willingness to do it for a 200k, an electric car, and carte blanche on telling anyone to fuck off where I deem them an obstruction.

Can't put a price on that.

While I'm at it, I'll reform the entire system in the off season under the same agreement
Sounds like the second coming of Eddie Jones. If we think things are bad now, we'll........

Some "advice" from EJ (Eddie Jones):
Outgoing Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has left more than $500,000 and some parting advice for Rugby Australia on the table: in his view, they need to follow the lead of Phil Gould at the Bulldogs and Panthers and rebuild from the bottom up.

Jones also praised “the horse guy” – Peter V’landys (the horse racing guy) – for the healthy state of rugby league. And he admitted the league itch remains, and he hopes to test himself in the NRL one day.
Eddie can go and get munted - RA shouldn't be taking his advice after his debacle.

Granted it's written by a League reporter so of course he's going to tell up Eddie talking NRL

because in all reality no one of this place has the slightest idea what (1) is needed to be the wallaby coach and (2) who best offers those qualities and (3) are they even available.

Edwards certainly is & if ppl want to put up White he has is from the exact same system as Ludeke.

If we keep going down this narrow minded path we have kept going down we will never move forward

I don’t think it’s necessarily ‘narrow minded’ to fail to actively consider a coach with no international experience whose 7 years in the Top League have delivered one championship

I mean sure, he’s an accomplished coach - but his record is hardly demanding to be heard

I'd only jsut back in the currently employed pathways coaches. The Junior Wallabies program has been pretty good in recent years.

Give the likes of Grey and Gilmore the chance to run the program and then have some key Super Rugby specialists in as Assistant Coaches to support them. The Southgate effect in essence - the men who've brought the guys through, continue to coach.

EG (just one example:

Head Coach - Jason Gilmore
Defence - Nathan Grey
Backs/Attack - Stephen Larkham
Set Piece - Zane Hilton

We can't keep throwing money at coaches.

I wouldn't rule out McKellar. English prem rugby is a slog, it's in as depressing a place as English rugby overall. Last season Leicester lost £1.9m and were carrying debts of £18m. This year two of their director/benefactors are injecting £13m. Their admin is vastly superior to the likes of the failed Wasps, etc, but you have to wonder about the sustainability. Plus Sarries, starting all their WC players, tonked them yesterday.

Perfectly qualified for the Wallabies job then.

I wouldn't mind Cheika in a roll like that. I think I'd rather Cheika than White.
