Not always. Mostly yes, however if the AAGPS coach sees value in another cox of a crew that did not win, then there is a chance that coxswain will be selected.

Kind of hard to determine value without a recording though?
Shame that Henry Burton snuffed out Mackenzie Fox for AAGPS Eight. Both were serious contenders.

Yes. McGrath (I) was selected in 2018 given Ignatius' shock win over Keenan (E), who in my opinion is the greatest cox to ever preside over an AAGPS Eight.
Coxswain tryouts would be interesting, rather than the more arbitrary method of winning or losing.

Any predictions for next years AAGPS coxswain?
Depends. Considering it's now entirely based upon HOTR results, could be anyone. Really depends on the strength of the current Year 10 VIII's to supplement the current Year 11's. Who are the coxes set to be 1st VIII next year?

Ignatius I would put my money on McNulty, who seems to be quite decent. I have spoken to a few of the GPS coaches at Shore School who say they have their eyes on Chapman.

On the subject of Coxswains, the best Gold Cup line award is tied between Tayar (J) and Longstaff (E). Simply brilliant lines put their crew to the fore!
