Barakat From scots played NSW 2's last year, wouldn't surprise me to see him get a run into the 1's team this year. He has been running around at 6 this year for scots but wouldn't surprise me to see him in the NSW 1's squad

Pretty hard to pick a player in a position that he hasn't even played this season. Apparently Barakat doesn't want to play prop. He wouldn't be ahead of either Alan A or Kulen in the GPS rankings.

I agree totally, but do you think the selectors would give him a chance as they must have liked his style of rugby last year to make GPS 2's, maybe they see it still in him?? any opinions, this is just a thought.

Fridays trial games will be held at Knox's Caragul ground on Bobbin Head Rd.

This is according to the ground announcer today at Rat Park.

ISA- get your act together. No touchies and no kicking tees isn't good enough.

II's tried hard but gave up too much start and CHS controlled possession well in the first half which stopped them tiring until later in the 2nd half. 4 tries to 5 was a fair indication of the game and gameday withdrawals hurt any cohesion that the ISA programming creates (very little).

I's were also unsettled by late withdrawals but grabbed an early lead before some poor centre field defence led to a 5-21 halftime score. With some of ISA's playing injured CHS upped the ante in the second half and the bigger, fitter bodies made a difference and the score blew out. All in all a dissapointing day for the ISA but you reap what you sew and the scheduling of comp rounds the day before playing certainly works against getting better results. On a positive note, many of the ISA II's side are year 11's so next year they should be better for the experience. The negative is that until a less amateurish approach is taken towards these trials then the percentages of NSW representation are likely to favour the other associations.

As it was a NSW schools organised event aren't they supposed to organise the officials especially if its an official trial for NSW.

The injuries must have affected ISA but from what i heard CHS backs were just too slick. How did Dombkins, Purcell and Natoli go?

ISA were the hosts as the ground announcer reminded everyone. Either way it is a poor situation to not have official touch judges at this level. Dombkins was strong but not dominant, Purcell was injured and only played 2nd half and Natoli played 2's then 15mins in1's and went better. CHS better on the day.

Sam Baraket from scots is a very promising player, i would not be suprised to see him picked in at 1,3,6 or 8 for the NSW side. He's got the strength, skill, technique and fitness a NSW player should have. He got a run in the 2s last year, and should be starting 1s this year with his recent performances

Any bolters from CCC, Country or AICES for the NSW 1s or 2s?
Heard the Country 15 had a fairly good game, can you confirm Lee?

concerning the hooker spot for NSW 1s it will probably come down to the two hookers from GPS and CAS. Guilfoyle (joeys) and Wilson (barker). My guess is that it will probably go to guilfoyle as his mobility around the ruck is second to none and resembles that of polata'nau. Wilson is a big unit though for a year 11 kid and could be a surprise. any thoughts?

CHS Is 38 ISA Is 5

What a difference a year makes. In 2010 CHS got flogged 43-5, but as no9 indicated in his post: one couldn't expect the ISA players to be up to par when they played a competition game the day before. They looked weary and some lads were missing from the teams listed. Be that as it may, but CHS dominated at the breakdown and the gain line. Their scrum was on top for most of the game too.

It was hard to judge the ISA forwards individually because the CHS pack and especially the backrow didn't let them shine. Likewise the ISA backs did it tough because their ball was not great quality. They looked good enough at the start and scored the first try IIRR, but the CHS put hammer down more and more as the game when on.

It was also difficult to judge the CHS players against the ISA players because they had easier chances. The ISA defence often seemed to be outnumbered out wide and the CHS outside backs were rampant in the spaces.

Some thoughts of the players - and using the programme, plus those changes advised by the ground announcer, especially to the ISA team, that I had time to scribble down:

ISA

• Athletic and rangy 4. Teleafoa (SSC) had a go at trying to change things but needed more team help. 6. Dombkins (St. Augustines) didn't do his NSW chances a lot of good, even taking into account the disadvantage that individual ISA forwards had. I assume that ISA will play CAS on Friday as they did last year; so Dombkins will have to shine in that one and he probably will with a few days rest. Mind you: if he makes the NSW Ones, I wouldn't be surprised if he became the skipper. He has a bit of gravitas about him and talks well with the refs.

• After starting in the Twos game Menzies (St. Augustines) started at 12 in the Ones also, then moved to 13 when his schoolmate JJ Purcell came on in the 2nd half. JJ did a few of his Quade Cooper sleights of hand and things improved a bit for ISA though a couple of his passes to the right looked a bit ropey. But it was like pushing water uphill.

• Another Augies lad 9. Natoili, also started in the Twos, and came off the bench in the Ones. I thought he was the best scrummie of the day and he had a very decent stint as 10. in the Twos game also. Just as he zipped around in the hybrid game last month so did he in this one. Watch this space on young Fabian.

CHS

• The backrow of CHS was superb. Perry (Alstonville) had a terrific game, first at 7, then at 8 after the semi-injured Broome (Asquith) joined him before oranges . Broome played in his typical mad dog, skilful style and ended up with three tries. It doesn't matter if he's around the rucks or seagulling in the backline (where he can play like a back), he is good value for every minute of a match. He will press better known opensides for the NSW Is spot.

• The scrum was dominant as mentioned and the props were decent around the park also. 1. Batho (Farrar) , who was promoted to the Ones from last week as I foretold, was dangerous near the line though he needs to run at defenders in a lower position. 3. Caterson (Endeavour) had a rampant long run of about 60 metres, albeit with an embarrassing ending.

• 9. Wessells (Endeavour) wasn't as good as last week against CAS and hasn't nailed a NSW spot yet IMO. 13. Northam (Killarney), 14. Tanginoa (Prairiewood) and 15. Gutherson (Freshwater) were superb in the broken play and sometimes they broke the play up themselves to let the support score the try, though Northam sometimes took a few steps too many before the pass.

Tanginoa was outstanding and looks like NSW material, but let's see him against GPS first. He could take the outside break as well as anybody but he was good in traffic too, even close to touch. He was hard to put down when stopped and sometimes broke through instead.

Cutherson was good on defence and also ran well from the back. By example: he started one move near his own goal line and finally released the ball to Northam at the right moment at the other end of the park for his team mate to score.

If their forwards can contend against GPS next Friday as they did against ISA, the contest for the back 3 NSW positions should be keen.

Like what you said about 14, from the looks of things we seem short on proven, quality wingers this year

Tuesdays CAS v GPS games have been transferred from Knox's main ground to their Carragul ground.

This is according to the ground announcer today at Rat Park.

The CAS v GPS games are still at Knox on Tuesday as the 1s start at 5:30pm (under lights!!!!). Friday's trials, however, are at Curagul.

You are right. I have just called Knox to confirm. I must have confused what the ground announcer said. I will change my post in case it confuses folks.

I couldn't get a definite time for the start of the IIIs but the bloke said the IIs start at 4pm; so work back from that.

Sundays games at Curagul start at 9.30 as they did in 2008 at the same ground. Then the CAS I v ISA I game started at 2.20pm and the CHS I v GPS I game was at 3.30pm

Lee anymore on the CCC v Country game?

Sorry I saw only the two ISA v CHS games.

Going from Joeys to watch the Waratahs, then catching up with the Reds game recorded at home then watching the 2 games in the RSA and the Oz U/20 game when I woke up I was lucky to get to Rat Park in time to see the last two games of the day.

I know that I said that I would give match reports but I meant of the two games I saw - sorry.

I'll report from the ISA v CHS Twos game if I get 2nd wind but my missus wants all these jobs done.

I have now spoken to some who were there yesterday and from all appearances ISA were totally outclassed by a slick CHS team. No excuses were given but it was pointed out that this was the third game for CHS and the first for ISA and mostof the ISA team played yesterday and the team were disrupted by injuries. However, CHS were clearly the better team.

The back three for CHS were very good and the side was well led by their captain at half. The 7 broome was the best player on the ground when he came on.

As for ISA things need to improve and hopefully with a few changes the performance on Friday will be much better. I was told that Dombkins led the team well and tried all he could to get his team going forward. He couldn't play his normal game in attack as CHS had most of the ball and when they did get some possession ISA turned it over or kicked it too often back to CHS. Aside from his leadership his defence was good and he too often was the only forward trying to compete with the CHS forwards at the breakdown. He also jumped well in the lineout. Menzies also did well after getting a call up to the 1's but the cattle around him left him a bit stranded. Natoli must be the half on Friday with possibly Purcell at five-eigth to try and get the centrefield defence stronger and get some attack going.

Al in all a very imressive effort by CHS, who given the team GPS has picked, could complete a clean sweep on Friday. ISA will improve and here's hoping will get up over CAS

Agree with everything you said but especially on Broome and Natoli, who I mentioned was the best scrummie of the day, notwithstanding that he was from the ISA Twos, and that an Oz Schools 9. Wessels was behind a dominant pack for CHS.

Mind you his type of play is appropriate for an underdog team as he is unpredictable and electric.

does anyone have anything on the ccc v country game, im always very interested in players with an outside chance from the 'less talked about' teams
any possible inclusions in the nsw side/s

Watched most of the game and only player to impress was the country No8. General standard was slightly off the pace of the other two matches IMO.
