Then perhaps he should be a 13.

He's not big enough to play 12, at least not yet.

Are there any other positions he doesn't play that we can imagine him in? Hooker perhaps? He'd make an excellent stealth lock: he's very tall for his height.

I'm sure he means that Deans doesn't know if he can deal with the heavy defensive channel post concussion. We all know he can tackle, but whether he's up for it yet is another question.

this is true, a large part of coming back from injury is psychological, he has done ok a shute shield level so far..

Barnes?? Have you watched the prick tackle?

TEXT BOOK.

He can tackle but until tested who knows if he is really over the head injuries issue... Dean cant have him at the RWC and not know or use him where he needs him in the midfield... i think unfortunately Mitchell, Barnes, Palu and Robinson are all shot ducks for this RWC campaign...

Steady on, it isn't me that wants another "playmaker" or "ball player" (or whatever the latest term is for small players that love twitter and peroxide) in the 12 jersey after the last 7 years of that plan failing. I'd like to try the alternative approach for a while before we grant O'Connor an 8 year mortgage over the spot.

I Think Deans has changed his mind after watching the Reds win the championship with a defensive 12 complimenting Cooper. You need someone in that channel who can deal with Nonu and SBW and Mils. The Brumbies centers McCabe/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) have shown a solid understanding in midfield defence. These guys area a gift to Deans and he still can use his young halves combo Genia/Cooper with a little Digby thrown in. Same goes for the locks Simmons and Horwill and front-row Moore and Alexander. All these S15 combos strengthen the Wallabies. Beale and JOC (James O'Connor) are given the license to roam which makes them more dangerous to the opposition. It’s the Australian loosies who need to work on good combinations.

I think you could be on to something there Mudskipper. Certainly the combos you mentioned did the business against the Boks. Big test this week though.

his head issue is actually Footballers Migrane which is brought on by exercise and results in dizzyness and other symptoms. As far as getting knocked in the head, a scan will reveal if the swelling around the skull has gone or not, if it has and im sure he has had the scan, it means any knock is not going to cause him to drop dead.

he has been testing his condition out both in training and on match day, the fact that he has passed these tests, performed under an expert in the field and the wallaby and waratahs doctors means he is fit to play, there is no longer any question about it.

Then let him play at 12 and we'll see the outcome... brought on by exercise oh please... is that why he leaves the field half way through a match... was he collapsing in the Tahs gym also? You sound like a guy in a cheap lightblue suit... :)

im also a guy who has been knocked out a few times and suffers from residual concussion syndrome. He was leaving the field due to footballers migrane, it is another form of residual concussion to what i have, but it is a diagnosable condition. Treatment differs, it is brought on by physical exertion. it was why before he took his break he came off. there was an article that mentioned he was lasting 60 minutes fine before he felt any effects, and after the break he has been able to put in 2-3 hours in the gym and survive 2 matchday warm ups games and warm downs. He isnt playing 12 for uni and nor should he cos Uni are playing well and will have there combination together after he joins the RWC squad. He is however slotting into 10 quite a bit and has defended in the front line a fair few times the last couple of weeks without issue.

Ive also had my fair share of head knocks, by no means does that make me an expert at them.
There are still question marks over head knocks and the on-going effects, this is a general consensus amongst the medical profession.
Just look at the incredible amount of effort been put into it in the US(NFL) and Australia(NRL) currently.

agree TOCC, but he has been cleared by specialists, so from the point of view of saying we cant play him because of it, he is passed fit and healthy by those who are experts.

I guess Sydney would be the place to find experts on such things.:fishing

Experts can only comment on what they know, head knocks are unfortunately a relative unkown in the world of medicine.
Barnes played against the Bulls and Highlanders when he arguably shouldn't have been, in hindsight it seemed doctors underestimated the extent of his injury.
I guess thats why when he took the break from rugby no one was able to put a definitive time frame on his return.

Im all for Barnes returning(starting 12 IMO), im just agreeing with others when i say im not 100% sold on his fitness yet.

Muddy just doesnt want to see another player edge in front of his hallowed son Giteau.

No Giteau has done his work for the Wallabies and is still a contender after 92 test, good for him... Barnes has had a poor season full of injuries and incomplete matches. Wallabies don't need to carry a player who isn't a 100% proven fit for his preferred position... Just because he had a good run at the 2007 RWC... thats just crap gents... TOCC you offer only a clueless assumption... I'm firstly pro the best team on the field for the Wallabies... i'd be massively surprised if Barnes makes the squad...

Exactly. Usually, medicos err on the side of caution. It's not our role as lay observers to add an extra dollop of caution. A career is a big thing to lose unnecessarily.

If team doctors are acting unethically then that's another matter.

I want Barnes back in the Wallaby squad right now. I honestly think he is the best option 12 for us, and I don't expect him to come back there anytime soon, but even on the bench.

Bring him back Deans

medicos have no financial loss if he ends his career early... no loss at all in fact... I haven't read a medico saying he is ready o play international rugby just Barnes saying he'd like to be a RWC contender...
