Fair point. It would be interesting to see how many of the Colts actually study at Uni which is probably the point I was making. In any event, it standards set certainly create a benchmark.
As far as I'm aware most of Uni's players from colts through are studying while they are playing. Obviously Uni are in a position to be able to offer scholarships in some cases but with a student body of almost 50,000 there are always going to be some that miss out and play for other clubs (or would prefer to do so anyway)

One H. Vanderglas may disagree with that notion ('not part of the rock'). He was outstanding for the wicks when playing. To be honest, the weak link(s) did not include the Backrow in 2011, very solid trio.

Wonder if Vanders willl be sticking around up north, his dad has become Easts (ACT) new president.

Player movements!

Wondering if any player movements in Randwick considering new coaches especially in 1st. Has Cruze ah nau moved from Randwick? and also George Fifita who moved from west to the wicks mid season, seen as he had alot of game time in 1st for the wicks, is he still at the wicks?

I don't think you should be bragging about Wests having some of the best facilities due to good management by Wests. Concord was rebuilt by dubious means for the 1987 world cup and if the Wests Tigers didn't have concord as their training venue most of the training facilities would not be there. Wests have had some strong playing rosters over the years and there Colts are always in the finals yet they struggle to get close to making the top 6 in the Shute Shield and over the past years have had high profile coaches in Joe Barracat and Matt Wiiliams yet struggled to make any impact. There must be more too it as why they cannot consistantly compete
"Bragging" ???
So you don't think West Harbour has some of the best facilities of the clubs in the Shute Shield ?
And you don't think West Harbour , the lease holders of Concord Oval , were not involved in negotiations at the time regarding the redevelopment there , or played any part in the final outcome ?
And perhaps you can tell me which of West Harbours facilities ,which you say come mostly from Wests Tigers , would not be there ?

Concord was a hole before it was redeveloped and was only redeveloped because NSW wanted there version of ballymore.
I have been going there every year since 1984 and the gym only came when the Tigers came
Sure Wests might have had some gym equipment but not to the level they have now plus they have 2 other items missing
1) atmosphere at a game
2) trophy cabinet
Great management they can fluke a decent ground but cant fluke a premiership or even a top 6

The ovals flooded 2 days ago, along with on of the main switch rooms & the area between Bosch and Blackburn buildings, because the 4ft diameter drainage pipe that takes the storm water away got pile driven through 8 weeks ago in the building site next to the hospital, and no one told the Uni!

Unfortunately he only played 4 games for the wicks this year.....
Maxwell, McFarland, Mowen, Parsons all had good digs for the backrow in 2011 too......

Thanks for the info blindsider, was wondering why the Uni seemed to have acquired a new lake in the last few days when I've seen it in much better shape after much worse rain.

Tahboy, I'm not sure what your problem is with Wests but you've made it apparent you have one several times already.

He managed to play a fair bit in 2010?

In any case - as I said, the Backrow at the wicks certainly wasn't the issue. Great depth.

Yeh, like most clubs, they have plenty of 1st grade quality backrowers, even down to 3rd/4th grade, but yes, some other positions were left wanting......

Why don't you read what I actually wrote ?
Nowhere did I say that Wests officials were part of the 1987 World Cup negotiations.
What I did say , was that as the leaseholders of Concord Oval at the time , they were directly involved in negotiations with the NSWRU , firstly , that Concord Oval was redeveloped , & secondly in what form
the redevelopment would occur.
In the process ,as expected , the Wests club sought to ensure that the negotiations would provide maximum benefit to the club.
As for the West Harbour gymnasium , this was developed with the labors of the players & members of the club , it is for the use of Wests players only , free of cost to them , & has absolutely
nothing to do with Wests Tigers. The gym will be doubled in size in the next few weeks in fact , also due to the efforts of the club , something which will no doubt please you, noting your
obvious affection for Wests club.
Also Wests did make the semi finals under the coaching of Joe Barakat who you mentioned & again under the recent coaching of Stuart Woodhouse , but these were only "flukes" as you generously pointed out.
As for atmosphere , the 2011 Shute Shield grand final held at Concord Oval recently was a great success , with what I & most others in attendance, apparently mistakenly, thought was a great atmosphere.
Another contributor , Jnor , above , believes you have "a problem" with Wests.
I wonder why he formed that opinion ?

aren't wests folk touchy...................

yes they made semi's under Barakat (not sure of the year) and Woodhouse (2009 or was it 2008) but they have gone backwards since. And you folk must admit that you indeed have had quite a strong player roster in all those years except for 2011. Poor old Andrew Cox must have wondered what he walked into. Wests canned Woodhouse like a tuna, players loyal to Woodhouse left in droves as a result and Cox effectively had a side that pretty much played 2s and 3s in 2010.

To add insult to injury Woodhouse then wins a comp as backs coach at Eastwood, then pinches Cummins and Su'a from under their noses for 2012

Defend Wests as you are entitled to people...........but clearly, it appears something has not been right for a while.
Will be interesting to see if Daniel Manu can stop the bleeding

Slash, Barakat got wests to the finals in 2002 but had no luck.
Done That the atmosphere at the SS GF was great but wasn't generated because West Harbour was playing. Wests supporters will continue to trot out the profit and facilities statements but I would love to hear from a supporter who witnessed your last 1st grade premiership.

I'm finding it hard to get my head around the relentless sneering at Wests. I think they're a great club who've been knocking on the door of serious success for quite a few years. I hope it comes to them soon.

Thats good news for Easts that Henry and Jacks old man has become the new President...Archie will bring back success to that club and maybe a few of the boys who left in 08 might make their way back too...

Who is the new coach???

I have no beef against wests I just don't see how there management over the years can be seen as being brilliant when they have been such under achievers for so many years
Was 1938 there last premiership? Or something like that
Just out of curiosity was it wests who missed a finals spot because they were caught playing an unregistered player?

Last GF 1973, last Premiership 1929 that's some seriously sore knuckles.
