I thought that Barnes looked a bit shakey at times at 10, loved the crosskick passes, but when hot on attack thought he struggled with accuracy of passing, especially long passes. Gotta say on other side Cruden looking better all the time, he really looking class!!

Why do the Tahs hate us fans so much? So hard to follow. Chiefs are good, no doubt, but the Tahs were their own worst enemies.
Bench added nothing either. Went from decent scrumming to kak.
Poor options at critical times had me screaming - Barnes with ridiculous passes and some shit kicks (but he did do a lot of good things too); throwing it to Kingston and Foley to bust the midfield (they're both pretty slight) and so on.
Horne and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) (mostly) were missing, Carter too. I thought Dennis was a bit quiet.
The Tahs aren't terrible, but they are not making the most of some of the territory and possession they garner.
At least we get 4 points next weekend.

I agree Cyclo. I said in week 2 I had serious concerns regarding Ryan. I thought he looked seriously overweight and he was totally dominated when he came on in the scrum. I have seen nothing since to change that view. To make the reserves bench a player should be able to add something when replacing a tiring fit player. Ryan is a huge negative whenever he come on even when Kepu is hobbling about clearly out of gas.

Now I said two weeks ago that the Tahs season was over then. They will not make the semis. M. Foley needs to bite the bullet and introduce some new blood to the Tahs and do something different. I do not believe that Barnes is fully fit, but his passing issues have always been there but were covered by his ability to challenge the defence and kick brilliantly from hand. He is still a better option than Hangers at 10 but I would suggest that Barnes needs to move to 12 to provide a stable influence for B. Foley to move to 10. In the Pigs Ryan has to go and a replacement Potplant found somewhere, and Mumm should also go for S. Timani to start at Lock.

Long term if TPN doesn't learn better tackle technique his career will soon be over. In so many tackles where he is injured it is because he leads with the head or with the head in the wrong position. I admire his committment and he tackles are a great contribution to the Tahs game but there is also a huge gulf between him and Ulugia (or even Fitzpatrick) as with Kepu/Ryan.

Said the exact same thing at my mate's house watching the game. Just bad technique.
Who'd you play at 15 if Foley goes to 10 and Barnes 12? AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)? Then who do we put on the wing? We're a bit thin. I agree that Foley at 10 would be nice to see at some stage.
The Tahs need to turn this season into a Reds 2010 where they find some things to build on, as you say.
They must be ruing those close losses to Reds, Clan and Force. Season could be so much different, but, as you say, maybe that would be spack-filla over the cracks than a real fix.

I don't know why the season is being written off, thanks to the conference system where a bonus point win off topping the conference and we still have to play the brumbies twice.

I'm all for trying stuff, but let's build on what we have to get better and give ourselves a chance this year rather than looking to next.

I thought we played alright first half tonight, lack of clinical finishing is really hampering us.

Whoever makes AACs boots needs to do some research on longer studs, the guy makes so many half breaks only to end up on his arse it's not funny.

Chiefs were to good, took the opportunities on offer, thought if the Tahs did this in the first half they may have kicked on. But going into the break down after dominating so much really seemed to spell the end.

Early scrum and territorial dominance led to so little. Execution was just poor at critical moments and I was disappointed that the chiefs made the gain line time after time through midfield.

Barnes was also disappointing. Cruden, on the other hand, looked really sharp and seems to be the one true heir to DC's 10 shirt; he has game and looks to really have kicked on from last year.

I thought the refereeing was very poor: "side entry" when fully bound tahs players merely revolved around the centre of the ruck, for instance.
flanker clearly detached - and even if he wasnt how many times would you get away with that?? Remember when reviewing the tape that he has to keep the whole of his arm up to his shoulder in contact before the ball comes out.

Does that in most games he plays, I can't stand it when he does it for the wallabies and I don't support the tah's at all and it still shits me.
most of the refs now realise that even a life threatening brain injury wont stop him from continuing.
yet again this "injury" was the result of absolutely crap tackling technique from TPN.

To be honest mate, I can't stand the bloke as a player. There is no one else on down there on the horizon.

I am going to have to watch this game again, for long periods the Tahs looked pretty good, but the Chiefs' threats were simply too numerous for the Tahs to manage.

They did go well at times. Frustratingly, they undid potentially good field position and attacking position with poor options - several very ill-considered kicks (as usual) and some really poor defence in the middle, especially around scrums, which had me wondering if there were communication problems between backrowers / half-back. We had a few half-breaks that could have been useful if anyone in our backs could / would offload.
As with the Highlanders in Dunedin, to lose to this Chiefs team in Hamilton is no disgrace - they look a pretty good side. But the Tahs had enough ball etc in that game to get closer, and should have shut down at least one of the Chiefs' tries.
The frustrating season goes on.

Historically the Chiefs lose more in Hamilton than on the road.
The Tahs problem is that they havent even been to SA yet where they almost never win.....but geez I reckon they look good for 2013*
