Im sorry LG and Reckless but i have very good sources for this information and his performances around the breakdown this year makes me think he will be able to excel at this position

Taufa Tofu is a talented musician on a scholarship from tonga who has later proven himself to be a formidable rugby player ! I think he will fit very nicely in the 1st XV and possibly even higher representation

i think the reasoning of why he has been accepted does not matter and it has been adopted by other schools so hopefully he will not only add his rugby experience to the Kings School and the GPS competition but to gain a great education and improve his musical abilities though out his schooling career, what school did he come from in tonga or was he born in Australia?? (sorry to be interested just curious)

i hear there had been another addition into the Newington Dream team and he is only in year 10, comes by the name of Simon kennewell he is from st. Augustines.....another one haha but he plays centre and is a big unit, i expect big things from this kid and i think he may play a key role in the Backrow and george prassas may move to prop.

MY Pick for 2013

1. George Prassas 2nd XV
2. Campbell Shearer/Matt Serhorn 2nd XV, 16A
3. Vuni......(not too sure of his full name, correction will be made if i am wrong) 2nd XV and 16A
4.Anthony Vasilis (1st/2nd XV, got injured early on with a thumb injury)
5.Simon Kennewell (centre to backrow, interesting to see how he goes or if he changes to this position)
6. David Morris 1st XV
7. Jordan Roods/Tom Meaney/stuart Mill (all strong ruckmen) all 2nd XV members
8. Lachie Kannell (easy rep player if he keeps up his form) 1st XV
9. Joey Lussick 1st XV
10. Ellis Abraham (english lad, strong with the ball and good defender) 1st XV /Lachlan Anderson (small but a key play maker and controller of team mates) 2nd XV
11. Tanne Milne (needs to prove himself in this position, imposing and a good ball runner) 1st XV
12. Josh Mitchell (needs more exposure to the 1sts, great with the ball and a key defender when it counts) 2nd XV
13. Tepai Meoroa (big unit, Aus. school boy rep and hits like steam train) (1st XV)
14. needs to be filled in (any ideas)
15. needs to be filled in (any ideas)

this could well be one of the greatest teams that Newington had put together, even more so than last years winning team, but if the coaches use this players right and don't lose key players, they will for sure be a dominat team once again and win the GPS title on the anniversary!

i see your opinion here but from an strong supporter of the college and a consistent observer of all levels, i think the teams back like will look a little more like so
9-Lachlan Anderson
10-joey Lussick
11-tanne Milne
12- Ellis Abrahams
13-Tepai Meoroa
14-josh Mitchchell(speed is underrated but many dont know of his GPS athletic achievements)
15- Zac Robbertson (played 3rds previous season, may be the only contending back for the position?)

lachlan anderson was a key player in last years 2nd XV, his use of vision and skill was extraordinary, much like matt gitteau, at his prime.

Good group at #7!

FYI - Stuart Mill won the "Best Forward" award for the Newington 2ndXV this year, and also was awarded "Best Forward" for his SJRU Open"A"'s team ( Canterbury Juniors / Sydney Uni ). He was named Illawarra Representative Player of the Year for his work with Illawarra U/17's at Country Championships ( before school rugby had commenced )! Not a bad return for 2012! :)

OK - will watch with interest!:). I just think that it may rob TKS of a real "playmaker" and also his kicking game! Cheers, Wreckless

stuey mill is an absolute workhorse, the effort he puts in will be an essential factor to newingtons success, a little mark baldwin in the making.

Playmaker

Frank Nicholson (4)
should be a good competition between Mill and Tulloch next year then, a titanic battle at the 7 spot for gps 1s

Quick Hands

David Wilson (68)
Newington will have plenty of depth for the 2 round competition then. Morris is class and reads the game so well.

Not sure where to post this, but thought the on going push into the schools would interest some

Dear ,

As General Manager - AFL NSW/ACT, please allow me to update you on an
Independent Schools Winter AFL competition that will be commencing in
2013.

AFL NSW/ACT recently met with several school associations including
IPSHA, Associated Schools of NSW and AAGPS to develop a winter AFL
competition model for 2013. The competition is available to all
Independent Schools should they wish to be involved.

We are pleased to note that some schools have already expressed a strong
interest to participate in this competition and we are looking forward
to working with the Independent School community to facilitate this
opportunity for your students.

The basic model of the competition is outlined below;

* Schools can nominate teams in two age groups - Yr 5/6 and Yr
7/8.
* Game times will commence from 9am on Saturday mornings.
* Appropriate AFL venues will be finalised once teams are
confirmed.
* The season will include 10 weeks of competition from May 4 until
August 10.

AFL NSW/ACT will offer a flexible fixture to ensure all schools have the
ability to be involved and meet their current commitments. AFL NSW/ACT
understands association sporting calendars do not align for all schools
however we are hopeful a number of schools can be involved from the
various associations of the Independent School network.

AFL NSW/ACT will manage all aspects of the competition and provide
assistance to support schools to become involved. This support will be
available for a minimum of three years and will include the following:

* Booking and payment for all competition grounds.
* Provision and payment of field umpires for all matches.
* Appointment of a ground manager at each venue.
* Provision and payment of qualified sports trainers at each
venue.
* Coaching support for schools.
* A subsidy of 50% for AFL approved uniforms (jumpers, shorts,
socks) for up to two teams from each school entering the competition.

Please find a registration form attached to be forwarded to AFL NSW/ACT
staff. This form is due by 9th November, 2012 and will be used to
formally register teams if your school is interested.

I welcome any opportunity to meet with you to discuss your potential
involvement or any support AFL NSW/ACT may provide to enable your school
to participate in this exciting and historic competition.

Please feel free to contact me should you require further information
about any details about this proposal.

Kind regards,

Good point. Wish we had the money that the AFL has to throw around

It's easy to say that, and obviously we all do, but everything we know and love about rugby would be so different if that was the case. Who knows in what ways?

Maybe your local Shute Shield club would have packed up and moved to Victoria. Maybe the top tier would be more inaccessible to fans than it is now.

You never know.
