The foxsports article makes the assumption " that some of the incentive-based components of his top-up have been replaced with guarantees."
However, do you think he may have backed himself instead and signed the original incentive-based contract if the ARU didn't budge on what was offered initially?

Wait....what?

So if he signs on the dotted line is the Boxing out? Assuming he wouldn't have that in his ARU contract?

He was apparently serious about wanting to punch on, it will be anti-climax if it doesn't happen.

Well, I'm bloody glad that Quade is staying in rugby. So now that's said...

Did we really need to go through all this bullshit? Both Quade and the ARU come off badly in this, for different reasons.

Secondly, at $800k, the expectation will be that Quade starts when fit. You don't pay that money for a bloke to struggle to get into the 23. His price tag demands that he play. So I think this means that the powers that be consider 10 Quade and 15 KB (Kurtley Beale) to be the preferred lineup for the Lions. That puts Barnes at 23 and Lilo out of the equation. Obviously Super Rugby could change things, but with big money invested this is the likely outcome.

So in the end it was ALL about the money...

Glad that's been made clear.
Really? You don't think that was about what he was offered in the first place? And he turned down a massive offer from France. Sometimes you have to take the blinkers off Slim. (Yes I have been waiting to use it.)

Sad day for rugby. This muppet thinks he's bigger than the game and like Sllim said - it was just about the money. He had the opportunity twice before this to sign with the ARU and declined both times.

Time will tell but I think QC (Quade Cooper) is a waste of money.

I think the ultimate winners in all this, and the ONLY ones to come out OK, are us, the fans of rugby.

We get another year of Quade at the Reds, which will undoubtedly strengthen our conference and make it better and more interesting to watch. There is also another player to compete for the 10 jersey.

The ARU have been bitched, and Quade has had his already shit reputation even more tarnished.

But I am doing OK!

I still don't understand what changed from the ARU perspective. They offered him X, withdrew that then offered him Y (which is much less than X) and have now offered him X again. What prompted that? Seems to be a bit of a loss of face for the ARU unless they can point to something changing.

The ARU would never have wanted to lose QC (Quade Cooper) from Super Rugby and as a potential Wallaby. I'm sure they would have loved that he would stay for much fewer dollars after everything that happened but I think you can be pretty sure they have him on a short leash now.

Hopefully QC (Quade Cooper) has also realised that he almost blew it and is lucky to be in the position that he now finds himself in. I hope he toes the line now and becomes a team player.

Yeah, maybe something changed for the ARU. But lets hope the just now all shut up and move on. This whole episode has been a blight on both Quade & the ARU.

It has given us something to talk about though.

I also wonder if the ARU really changed that much about the offer, and this was just a PR exercise by Khoder.

Nasser and Cooper have been way out ahead of the ARU, shaping this story in their interest from the start. Even this story today- note the author is a league journo. If it came from the ARU why would they give it to Brad Walter?

A part of me wonders if the offer was ALWAYS decent, and yet Khoder and Quade put on a whole circus to try and get it a bit better. So the ARU bump it up marginally, and then QC (Quade Cooper) accepts and trumpets his victory over the ARU, and always at pains to note he turned down 'lucrative' offers from overseas clubs, thus proving his loyalty.

I don't think we'll know the whole story for quite some time.
