I find it very hard to believe Foley isn't in that backline, given he can play 15 and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) can play 13 (and it's probably in the Wobs' best interest that he does so). Unless Foley in injured?

Anyway, I agree with TOCC

^ IIRR, Foley had surgery after the Super Rugby season concluded. I think it was shoulder surgery so it may have played a role in why he wasn't considered.

From Lord gagger's twitter feed, the apparent "strong mail" is that the tahs starting backline will be hart, Barnes, turner, carter, Horne, izzy, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper).

God I hope that's wrong

Surely it'd be more along the lines of McKibbin, Barnes, Turner, Horne, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Mitchell and Foley? Hart, Carter and Folau on the bench?

I'd play McKibbin/Hart (can't split them), Foley, Turner, Horne, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Mitchell, Barnes with Izzy to step in at first injury.

Then again, Horne's not really a 12 so maybe that's an issue.

Barnes @ 15, Foley @ 10

Play the guy who can play flatest @ 10. Barnes plays pass the parcel behind the advantage line

Like and agree, I am also very keen to see how
Lucas goes at half.
Lane goes at 5/8.
Volavola goes at 5/8.
Only based on viewing last year I think these players play on the line and attack, something that I've missed in my viewing.
I like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) @ 13.
Happy with Mitchell & Turner @ 11 & 14,
At 15 I think Barnes is a good safe fit, but last year the 11 / 14 / 15 never really counter attacked, I'd like to see a 15 that provides this option is it Barnes or Foley?

Foley or Lane at 10 Berrick at 12...Horne NOT a 12.....Mckibb/Foley/Barnes/Horne......Turner/Mitchell/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) back three. Izzy will start on bench and wouldnt be surprised to see rotations. There is some real possibilities that with Lane,Betham,Kingston,Lucas,Crawford,Hart,Hodge and Volavola all in the squad we will have a backline that looks nothing like the above. Lucas will be defininitely Bench due to his versatility and could end up starting 9 or 10. Get money on Kingston having a big year as well....................Devils advocate..how about Lucas,Lane,Foley,AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper),Folau,Kingston,Barnes

15 backs named but no room for Tom Carter. I'm prepared to take short odds that he starts more games at 12 than not.

Anyone care to give me even money?

Gday Bruce, I left 12 blank above because I think we are lacking a 12 with enough variety.
Carter - his antics piss me off, his passion and commitment for the team he should be one of the first picked, his stats are generally above the average. It's his variaty that does concern me, plus he plays for Uni;).

Carter or Barnes at 12 in that order, but, depending on the inside and outside backs.

Foley and Barnes didnt do it for me @ 10 last year, however both had excellent vision at 15. I'd like to see 11, 14, and 15 working together more.

As for 12 I think it is a weakness for us, I have a like / hate thought on Carter, hope new coach new game plan, and he excells.

Cheers,

Depends on his exuberance, he adds lots, but sometimes he becomes a caricature of himself. All niggle and little game

I am more interested in how we play our 9, last year we wanted them to play like Burgess. All little pop passes on the edges to static units. The challenge was, our 9s couldn't play like that.

Malietoa Hingano - a young 12 with alot of class that I hope is not lost to another province.

People's thoughts?

We lost Sione Piukala, who played in a Shute Shield premiership winning team, not to another province, but to French rugby. He was a very good, young, strong, 12.

He was a far better prospect than some of the dross that is still in the Tahs squad.

When starting the post I was thinking over seas as well but forgot to type it - spot on.

Meh. There are only 35 spots in the squad, you can't include everyone. You'd love to be able to hang on to guys like Piukala, but the reality of the situation is you just can't, and it is better for everyone that they seek greener pastures (either domestically or overseas).

I am very happy with our roster this year, so am not too hung up if non-included guys want to go elsewhere.

I'm not. Half the squad are winger/fullbacks and we have a severe dearth of inside backs and flankers. Piukala amd Hingano are inside backs.

Flankers - Hooper, Ale, Gilbert, I think the shute sheild has some depth there if required (I would have like NSW to pick up Jordy Ried).
Inside backs - I'm concerned about 12.
5/8 Lane / Volavola and the to fullbacks in Foley and Barnes.
