Yep, citing him is overkill. It is done now, there was no malice, and as Ash points out, the damage was actually done by a team mate.
I was calling for a yellow card at the time, but more out of hope than justice.

Was it just me, or was everyone else puzzled by what exactly the TMO was checking in the Volavola try? It appeared that the call came from the touch judge to the ref, but on all the replays there seemed nothing even remotely questionable about the try.

I hope we're not going to go back 2 phases to check play every time something happens in-goal. The checking of an incident at the other end when it Volavola obviously knocked on before the Reds player did was almost most as bad. The ref and Brendon Cannon must have been the only 2 people who missed it.

There's enough stoppages in the game without any more, unless there is something obviously amiss.

Agree was waiting to hear Gus Gould pass his thoughts, didn't like it.

The TMO now has greater powers, which is why we're seeing them review incidents leading up to the tryline........

I'm not sure if I like it to be honest, but I guess we can review it later in the year.....

So far there's been a few incidents which really didn't need reviewing that wound up being tries.......

What about the carter grubber when he was at first receiver from a turnover in their half (or very nearly)?
Another confused response to this positive message.
I'll give Cheika the benefit of the doubt and say that the problem with playing positively may lie in the fact that some of these blokes are just not that good.

This Waratahs team is mainly current Wallabies. If they're not good enough to learn to play ball in hand at Supe level then rugby in this country is over. But of course it's not, and they can.

Some of them cannot. Demonstrably so,in any tier of Rugby.
They can still add value, with the right game plan against the right teams.
You don't have to play running Rugby at all times against all foes.

I was listening on the Sports Ears and on that try the ref asked the TMO to go back and check the last pass (which was at least two metres backwards if not more).
Looked possibly forward to me - but I assumed that passes weren't reviewable for reasons discussed in another thread many moons ago.

I don't follow: how do you explain what Carter did?
Which was very similar to what he called for in the same game in 2012 that cost the Tahs the game.

The Tahs need Barnes to get back to full health and playing. From the sound of things last week, but would be unlikely before the Brumbies game at the earliest.

Ideally, this is what I think the Tahs team should be:

1. Robbo
2. TPN
3. Kepu
4. Douglas
5. Chapman
6. Dennis
7. Hooper
8. Palu
9. McKibbin
10. Foley
11. Turner
12. Barnes
13. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
14. Kingston
15. Mitchell

16. Ulugia
17. Ryan
18. Timani
19. Timani
20. Hart
21. Volavola
22. Folau

Other option would be to leave Mitchell at 11, play Volavola at fullback and Turner on the bench.

I think for a few weeks at least, Folau should be an impact player off the bench. I fear that we will pay for his learning curve if he is persisted with too much. Perhaps he can play at 15 against the Rebels and then come off the bench against the Brumbies.

Our lineout is twice as good when Chapman is on. He needs to be the 80 minute lock.

Tilse didn't do enough around the park to warrant his elevation. His scrummaging still isn't strong. Ryan could probably start over Kepu. Kepu wasn't good.

Barnes should play Fullback, and Mitchell should stay on the wing.

That is definitely another permutation.

I really liked Barnes at fullback for the Wallabies and he provides excellent last line defence and safety under the high ball.

If Barnes started at fullback and Carter started at 12, you could play Carter for about 50 minutes and then move Barnes to 12 and bring Folau on at fullback with half an hour to go.

Folau will start this week, they shouldn't break him yet

Yeah, I think that it is a good choice to start him against the Rebels.

Depending on how he goes, he should possibly play off the bench against the Brumbies.

He was a good defender in league and retaining the ball in contact should be something every league player is good at. His two biggest problems should be easy to rectify. He fell off a couple of tackles and made a poor decision not to confront Shipperley further out from the line. It's not like he was caught dramatically out of position at any point.

Another close loss supported by "we saw some positives out there"???.....the only positives were in the Chiefs/ Highlanders. The press conference should have been..."that was the same Aussie conference crap from last year"...sorry guys we'll try again next week...we even got the "this was a typical passionate NSW QLD DERBY!!!!!!" aaarrrrggghhhh..

Watched the game twice - once at the stadium and again this morning. Its going to be another frustrating year. RObbo must start - Tilse and Slipper appeared to have a gentlemans agreement not to push - two average scrummages cancelling each other out.

Not sure how long we can stick with TPN and his poor lineout throwing - he also looks overweight. Palu didnt seem to have much go forward and I worry about Timani's lack of basic ball skills. But the real issues are in the backs. The current centres dont offer enough dynamism. I thought Falou was poor and would benefit from a stint in SS or at best coming off the bench (on the wing only).

Mitchell was also off his game.

I think your team selection is about right given the squad we have, although I would be tempted to start Ulugia.
