I'm surprised no one has mentioned To'omua bombing a certain try in the 1st half, while Lilo was in the bin, after yet another great break from Mogg, man that guys got pace & a step! The Reds defense was at 6's & 7's and the Brumbies had a 4 on 1 overlap & To'omua inexplicably stepped back inside to heavy traffic. That right there showed me he's not up to Wallaby honours just yet.
Geez, if one significant error is the threshold for boning from Wallaby contention, it's gonna be a pretty small squad! Tough marker.

Jesus give the Reds some credit. They have fine tuned the 12 man rolling maul! Tweaked it, improved it! Now it's a 10 man rolling maul. That makes it about 16.5% more efficient than the stodgy old 12 man maul.

Just on the all in maul. I remember the first time I saw it live was late 80's - this was the time I started spending Sundays at Ballymore, the Reds were playing some international team and Slats is screaming at the forwards to press on, then he turns to the back line and signals them all in. From memory Noddy even piled in and they scored, Old Man Mcbain may have come up with the ball. It is an all or nothing move. Got to say I find it really exciting.

I think Australia has yet unrealised potential with cooper at 10, but I don't think we will see it with Deans gameplan

I doubt whether, at ANY point, Deans or any of his assistants wrote down or spoke the words "throw a stupid pass instead of going into contact".

But whatever. This blame for Deans not having the right game plan for Quade ignores the fact that Quade doesn't seem to have any game plan that isn't for Quade.

I don't have a problem with him defending out wide*, and yes he does make tackles on par with most players when called on - provided he can take the side-on approach. Had he improved in this area? Not to my thinking.

Watch any tackle where he has help and you'll see he doesn't attempt to impose himself physically and perhaps pull off a dominant contact to turn over the ball. He lets the other guy take care of it, then spins off to realign or tries a quick strip. Maybe he needs to judge those on a case-by-case basis rather than making disentanglement his primary option.

* it is interesting to watch the kiwi sides use this frequently with players like Barrett, Cruden, etc when kiwis have been some of Quade's harshest critics. I think now it's too late - he has a reputation as a bad defender and won't be able to shake it, like Baxter got a reputation as a bad scrummager and couldn't shake it despite all evidence to the contrary.

Definition of insanity right there.

I need to borrow someone else's eyeballs when I watch the reds. Simmons? Really? Busted recited I know, but.

Really?!!
Simmons has been really good in most games in both attacking and defensive line outs - and for all the discussion re our second rowers in the scrum we also need strength at the line out. He has also stopped giving away so many penalties and improved his work rate. I wouldn't have him in my starting wallabies side, but it is unrealistic to expect our first choice 15 will be available every game. He is a better player this year than he was last year, and given he was in the squad last year I don't see why he wouldn't come into consideration.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother. I had a quick look, looks like those who make brainless comments on fox sports have invaded what is usually a decent site. Lots of "cheaters" and the ever so eloquent "scumbies" comments. Thank goodness there is still some sensible conversation in this forum.

The level of comment is not stellar, by any stretch. Certainly passionate, but a few are pretty out there!

There are some Reds fans out there who put the passionate but reasonable folks who post on the forums to shame.

I guess you didn't see this one then.

Hard to judge how Quade would perform as a traditional 10 as he isn't playing one. But as usual he put in some good tackles, and we didn't see the chest up patty cake we have tended to see in the past. I understand why he does it, I just wish he wouldn't. Happily he didn't.

I just thought it showed a lack of maturity & vision. He's good no doubt but there are others superior at this time. That stuff up just compounded it for me.

I think these are the two most important stats from the game..........

Penalties:
Reds 7
Brumbies 16

Turnovers:
Reds 20
Brumbies 8
