I'm not even sure it was grounded by Habana in goal? Might have been a try in 'real time' to Phipps anyway.

Ok I cooled off and got over the disappointment. So let me spill it from my head and not my heart. Did the Stormers deserve a win? No. Did they deserve nothing out of this game? No

Without starting conspiracies or anything but I find it strange that the best angles always dissapear and there is some one in the way or not conclusive evidence to not award it. It scares me that we have put a game in the hands of local network who decides what angles are available. Also it scares me to think that local networks will always look for higher ratings. Nothing boost up ratings like a win for local team and get local support for a team. More local teams win at home more ratings. So we have placed a referee who sees only what they want him to see which makes him just a puppet. And I say this for all 3 countries. Cause its happening in all 3. You get some beautiful angles and you can make some good packages with it adding some crappy music and upload it to youtube. But as soon as a TMO needs a better angle its gone. Even if you saw a better angle earlier in the game.

The more power a TMO have the more power we give money hungry networks.

And to be fair to you Rassie, if it had have been the Reds on the end of those two decisions, I would have probably seen them differently. :)

At the ground I thought Higginbotham knocked the ball on before the penalty try. I thought the referees were a bit average there were decisions both ways that they missed I remember a blatant knock on from the Stormers that was missed when they were 5 metres out. Why did the ref need to go to the TMO for Higginbotham's try?

I agree the Higginbotham knock on was totally inconsistent with the same call v the Chiefs a couple of weeks ago.

In any case in the books it says we won, our 10th in our history and our first against a South African side.

I don't remember the crowd being announced at the ground but according to a report I just read it was 10,333.

I think there was a chance higgers lost the ball somewhat. if he did it went backwards out of his hand and he grounded it with the other hand (if not with the original hand).
I have a theory that in scrappy games like that one there are so many turnovers etc that the refs have trouble keeping up.
Same in Wellington last night.

The broadcast guy still belongs to the network. So he decides basically what the TMO can view. Which is a bit scary.
Really? I would've thought it was like cricket where the TMO chooses his angles. If you're right then that's a glaring risk.

It's fine to be pissed at the call, but the tin-foil hat stuff about the local networks is rubbish.

The time for my deliberations will come later. Right now, what do I care about? Let's see:

I had a great time at the game. I was served food and drinks all game by a lovely girl from RaboDirect. I saw one of the greatest wingers the game of rugby has seen score a try. My team won. The atmosphere was sensational. I got to enjoy the moment with a few of the boys after the game. I finally got to tell Rory Sidey I was proud of his game. I bagged the crap out of Mitch Inman about his eye watering boots. I watched Tom English pinching himself that this was really happening. I high fived Hugh Pyle. My wife and I walked down to Fed Square for hot coffee and sticky date pudding.

Everything else? Who gives a flying fuck.

As in all sports, the networks film the game and all angles are made available to the TMO.
No angle shows a knock on. Did the stormer lose it in contact? Higgers knock it or did the stormer just drop it. Can't tell and if u can't see a knock on u can't call one. Suggesting anything else is petty. The pulling back was a stupid play and if we had done the same it would've been the same call.
Lastly- we won by 10. Not 7
If stormers are mad at anything be mad at how idiotic ur team was to keep going for tries

Jdv saying it was an embarrassment was a bit rude IMO.
Thought English looked good. Inman solid d again and he and sidey seem to communicate well.
Higgers saffy Pyle and Neville all solid. Our scrum played well. Delve was great in his cameo. The work rate and d of our locks is impressive. And jones was a major impact player. Good d and a couple great runs with ball in hand.
Thought hegarty did his job. Some bad kicks tho. Woodward has to clean up those mental lapses when he kicks
Great win. Can't wait for the tahs

Bore off. The only angles available are those the networks film. So did all 5 camera men anticipate a potential knock on that they should position themselves to miss? This is petty and pathetic. If u were there live and saw a knock on u have a gripe. But no angle shows one.
Move on and grow up. Conspiracy theories?? Ridiculous post

Ignore the lunatic conspiracies boys. The logic goes something like this. The Stomers are the better team than the Rebels but the Rebels won. The Stormers can't have been outplayed, because they're the better team, therefore something else is to blame.
Easier for some people to blame the referee, the networks, the IRB, than accept their team wasn't quite as good on the night. If the Stormers boy had decided not to cheat, because he did, you know, cheat, then there wouldn't have been a problem.

I thought higgers knocked it on, but if he hadn't have knocked it on, I think penalty try was the right call. Probably wouldn't have given a yellow for it though, just a warning.

Higgers, Saffy and Pyle carried the rebels pack last night. Will be a shame if they lose Saffy, I think he's better than Jordy Reid.

Wouldn't mind seeing English and Sitauti on the wings with Mitchell back at 12. Although Sitauti could also possibly play 12.

Hegarty is not a long term option at flyhalf.

I'd like to see English in the centers with inman, thought he did well there when Inman went off. Than you could have vuna and sitauti on the wings with woodward at 15.

Backline is looking pretty good for next year

Situati has to start on the wing next week, such a powerful runner and his defense looked pretty good to.

I agree that Bryce needs more time. He did do well for what could reasonably be expected of him. His kicking was pretty bad, I didn't see any real long passing from him, and his decision making wasn't as fast as it could have been. But all of those will come with some more time and development i would hope. He was somewhat overshadowed I think by Stirzacker as a playmaker in the first half which is fine, because Stirzacker's passing and (surprising me) kicking were very good. At this point, I would probably have KB (Kurtley Beale)/JOC (James O'Connor) > Roberts > Hegarty, but its good that our young options are being developed so well.

I agree with the commentary about Sitauti and English. English has been very good on the wing for us in his appearances; he's taken his opportunities and is a keeper I think. Situati showed there was a fair bit to like about him too. I imagine he will get a bench position again going forwards, but if he keeps turning up like that he'll be pushing for a starting position. I wouldn't be surprised if he is retained for 2014 and begins starting.

But yeah, I give the lion's share of the credit for that win to the forwards last night. They absolutely smashed the Stormers at times and got good go forward, which made everyone's life easier. Higginbotham led from the front. Pyle was immense again. I'll need to watch the replay for commentary on Saffy, a lot of the hard tackling was done at the far end of the pitch for me so I didn't see who was doing that work; he still needs to lower his body height in contact though. Jones was ferocious when he came on and really lifted the team with his runs and smashing into the Stormers pack; that performance was a big hand up for a starting position if ever I saw one (despite the knock on).

Sidey would have to feel pretty hard done by to get dropped after that game. He didn't do much wrong from what I saw and did a fair bit in defence. I certainly think he deserves his position more than Vuna currently who has been lacklustre for mine other than the occasional attacking raid which often ends up in a turnover.

Just rewatching the game now. Only about 15 minutes in, but Stirzaker's passing and speed to the breakdown are both brilliant. What it's letting Hegarty do is stand very flat, especially on second and third phase ball. He doesn't have a great pass, but he's confident and brave enough to take the ball right up to the line and then pick up runners off either side.

Next week I'd start Jones instead of Neville. Neville's been a bit lacklustre for me and Jones has had a big impact every time he's come off the bench.

Good to see the rebels win their first against a SA side.

I am unsure about the legitimacy of the penalty try, but can say with 100% certainty that no penalty at all would have been awarded if the stormers player didn't act like a soccer player and pull on the jersey.

Want someone to blame? Blame that guy, he caused it.
