Ewen Mckenzie will take deans job if he doesn't win at least one test. Some of his selections are valid but some aren't based on this super 15 season at all they are based on players pasted years of form, why pick players that aren't at their best this year and leave out other who are in top form and have worked hard to deserve a spot

It really does not matter much why a particular player is chosen. What matters is the result. I can totally understand why Beale would be chosen - ditto McCalman. Test matches in front of a full house are a very different challenge to playing the next level down.

The higher the standard, the more important are the player's natural qualities, and his ability to produce them under huge duress. The only way to know how a player will cope at that level, is for him to play at that level. Super Rugby form is a guide, but nothing more.

Class is permanent, form is temporary.

Well Nonu showed why on Saturday, form is temporary class is permanent.

Quade, obviously trying to impress Deans and follow Beale's path back into the Wallaby squad, was involved in a boozy pub incident over the weekend....

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/spo...ith-pub-incident/story-e6frg7o6-1226660987983

He probably laments not punching a teammate after being omitted from the squad...

Contrast the article by Deans & ARU sympathiser Bret Harris with this one...

I'm not sure they are the same incident...

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/...-and-irish-lions/story-fnihsrk2-1226661044405

JUST hours after being told his Wallabies dream was quashed, Quade Cooper was attacked at the Normanby Hotel.
Late Sunday afternoon, Cooper joined friends at the Red Hill establishment but was quickly targeted.

A plastic cup full of beer was thrown at Cooper, drenching him, as the patron goaded him to fight by repeatedly verbally abusing him.

An argument took place before security intervened.

The patron who threw the beer was then thrown out of the pub.

Cooper left shortly after.

A witness to the incident told The Courier-Mail that Cooper was minding his own business when the patron began stalking him.

Cooper verbally responded to the taunts before a cup full of beer was thrown at his head.

It is understood he is not interested in pressing charges.

"Quade did nothing and to be honest, I was surprised he didn't retaliate because I would have," the witness, who asked not to be named, said.

"He was hit with a full cup of beer. He was soaked in it.

"There was an argument and Quade stood up to him, but he was never going to throw the first punch."

Deans yesterday said Beale had "presented himself in the right physical and mental shape" after a rehabilitation program to address problems with alcohol.

Must have been the most effective alcohol rehabilitation program ever devised. ARU should patent and market it worldwide.

The Salvos should clearly incorporate paddle-boarding into the 12 steps...

I hope the Lions don't send a couple of Pure Blonde's to Kurtley's room...

Can we stop using the "class is permanent, form is temporary" line. There are two situations here

1) a player who has shown numerous times in the past that he can perform consistently at an international level in a particular position, score tries, and has played all super rugby season.

2) Selecting players who are injury prone, have not played more than 2 games of super rugby, are emerging from rehabilitation or have just returned from Europe and apart from Beale last year, have not shown that they can make an impact at test level (apart from maybe bending the line once or twice).

Stop excusing hopeless selections by claiming it is because the players have 'class'.

Which 'class' players are we referring to?

Beale in particular, I think he is bloody good, and I am glad to see him finally facing his demons and hopefully coming through even stronger to again demonstrate his "class" at test level.

I say hopefully because I ain't watching him train and seeing his attitude, but others have and have decided he deserves a chance.

ARU are being selfish in selecting Beale. Very Näive to think that Beale is suddenly ok and will cope on or off the field.

I see it as just another injury, the coaches take advice, and rely on that advice, just like bringing Digby backt in, the medical advice say he will be right.

This must be right.
AA should get Deans in to help with the more stubborn members:
Deans said experienced Wallaby Beale had "presented himself in the right physical and mental shape" after a rehabilitation program to address problems with alcohol.

Some people battle a lifetime but Deans and his team have "cured it" in 3 months.

So this Beale guy is now crap?

So this Beale guy is now a error ridden, soft cock?

This Beale wasn't the starting 10 last year?

This Beale wasn't judged near best 15 in the world not too long ago?

This thread is getting stupid

What a lot of rubbish FP. Utter load of rubbish.

Firstly, cut the "soft cock" sneaky swipe at Cooper. Mods should do better.

Beale was considered the best fullback about three years ago. Last year he was rubbish at fullback. Recall his first game back for the Wallabies? He was an error machine. Beale still cannot go past the low percentage plays, in that regard he's no different from Cooper.

The fact is Beale had a clear alcohol problem, punched team mates, is deemed unfit to join his Super Rugby team, but is deemed fit to play for the Wallabies after a showing for Randwick that was nothing special.

The fact is Beale is a special player, and may people's favourites, so the standards are different there. Look at people still making snipes about Cooper and laptops, yet the defence for Beale, whose behavior off field has actually been worse than Cooper, is excused.

This thread is stupid for comments like yours as much as silly arguing back and forth. You shouldn't be encouraging it like that.
