KB (Kurtley Beale)'s year 10 is so long ago - but - you're either right or he was allowed to play GPS but not beyond and my very dim and imperfect recollection is that it was the latter.

There was a year when Joeys wouldn't let their boys play Aust schoolboys as it clashed or was too close to trial HSC exams. It may well have been that year.
I beg to differ and desire to split hairs.
I happen to think that the role of Captain is a particularly difficult role to perform, and should not be handed out willy nilly to the "best" player as it often is. Many good players do not execute the role Captain without negative impact on their own game. A lose-lose situation.
Some of the better Captains are actually very average players, but good communicators and rugby strategists. Their game does not go backwards when given the responsibility of being Captain. A win - win.
There are some year 11 boys in the GPS1 team that do not have the knowledge, experience, or rugby smarts and will struggle to gain the respect from the year 12 boys to warrant a bland statement that "any of the boys selected in the 1s would be a quality captain...."

Hugh Roach was selected inthe GPS 2nds in 2008 when in year 10, but replaced Richard Casilli from Kings in the 1's when Richard was injured in the CAS game. Roach was then the GPS 1's Hooker in 2009 and 2010. Likley the only forward to play in the GPS 1's in three consecutive years and even more likely the only front ranker to do so.

Saw the joeys riverview game. And was super impressed. First up didn't see any bad old boy behaviour... Quite the contrary just saw general good spirit.
Next positive, was the programme, love how they include the kids various pathways. Only shame was didn't get a copy. From a brief glance it seemed like the joeys kids were largely A team players thru the years, whereas. Some of riverview boys had been as low as fs. Wonder if this is reflective of different approaches.
Struck me as a real contrast in physical shapes. Riverview backs were tiny, but proved zippy and skilful. Their forward pack seemed to be a dads army including all shapes ... Thought bowditch and no 8 were particularly good.
Joeys players seemed almost too muscled up ... i gatherbthey have a new personal trainer (east suburbs based) they use on a Mondays , outsourced ? i dont know if there is a change in conditioning approach, or if they all know that newington and scots are bearing down on them. And when u are facing kids who can shot put 18 metres or whatever it is, I do get it ...
The joeys full back was the exception, and not wanting to be negative but didn't see him do some of the great thinks that Deegan, no 12 and latrell did.
In contrast thought riverview 15 , freeman? Was awesome. Talk about cool and calm ... Yet don't see him in gps teams?! Too old ... Is there an age cut-off.
Also thought that the high scoring was a reflection of great support play from both sides.and really the result could have gone either way, and will be interested to see round 2.
George smith ... Great analysis of pathways, although probably doesn't tell the full story of the horse-trading, arms race that some call it. Across the ages scots and newington are buying in talent ... That pathways type analysis would show how scots and new are collecting kids from far and wide

Also heard the scots rugby launch was massive $200 a head, 500 people, first class emirates auctions etc
And even scots parents winging about wealthy parents accepting rugby scholarship
Oh well ... Hope joeys bounce back against newington.

Yep ... Sorry didn't see that ... No idea who he is, but thought I recognised him from last year ... Either way he deserved to be picked ... It was his boot that got view home
He was selected in Year 10 in 2004 as a 15 year old, but he was injured in GPS training before the CAS game and didn't play.
I think the Joeys guys had a word and he wasn't considered for NSW Schools in 2004 although he was way better than the Nevilles who were picked in the two teams and better than the Oz Schools flyhalf that year, the older Christian Leali'ifano.
So later in 2004 he started his rep career in the NSW Schools U/16 team in the mud at Riverview, playing with the likes of Wykes, McCalman, McCabe, Ryan and Cameron Smith and against fellows like Pocock, Genia and Quade Cooper.

HJ I appreciate your comments regarding the qualities of a captain and completely agree, my comments were not meant in a bland way, rather that I have faith in the selectors in this case making a fine choice. As an aside, the current gps team has three current school captains, 2 year 11 boys who would not surprise me if they were captains next year of their respective schools and probably this same gps 1XV side, as well as a number of other players who hold considerable leadership qualities. Granted I can't speak for them all, but this is a team with plenty of leadership talent, however I appreciate your point regarding the qualities of a great captain, and you are correct, it is usually one of the "less skilled" people who end up being brilliant at bringing the best out of others and being great captains!
On the GPS representation note, Roach will surely go down as one unlikely to be beaten, as will kurtley, I'll count that as three years, given njury cruelled him after being selected, however I feel Mr Taylor of newington might have his record fairly safely tied up for a while yet! that is incredible if true!
Fencesitter, whether your point has any bearing on the young blokes selection or not, I would suggest that is a topic best left well alone! You can't take away that he has been part of a dominant pack so far this year, and in merit both hookers from the two undefeated schools are representing GPS 1 and 2
