Crusher I don't know whether there is any truth to your comment here, but if there is does it really help his rehab if you post a comment along these lines without any proof other than hearsay.

Further he is a tea tottling religious young man like many of those with Islander heritage. This I do know as fact.

Yeah not really something to post on a public forum.

He had a pretty decent game I thought. Not as destructive as EJ (Eddie Jones) in terms of ball running, but all round played quite well.

Was unsure on how we'd cope at inside centre this year, but with Bartley and EJ (Eddie Jones), and later UJ Seuteni when he returns from injury, we are looking good for depth there.

GPS had a clean sweep against Wests down at Yoku on the weekend. The Premier Grade Gallopers looked pretty average for most of the game but ended up taking the game 40-34. Wests right winger caused havoc and was best player in the ground in my opinion.

T12 - I agree Adam Deck is a very capable number 9 who had a fine run on debut but it is probably fair to say that his first half was better than his second as his pass fell away a bit in the second half.

But his organisation of the forward runners in the early stages of the game was outstanding and instrumental in the first try to Pettowa.

Decky's goal kicking was also outstanding given that it was only decided in the warm up that he'd do the goal kicking and he used a borrowed tee.

As for Easts depth - one would think it is heading in the right direction and proof of that would be the Reserve Grade win on Saturday - a game they would surely have lost in the last few seasons. But the lower grades and colts were poorly performed over the first two weeks (Rounds 2 (South) & Round 3(Wests)) where they did not win a game. With no Women's team and lack of lower grade/colts success Easts next Doughty Shield is a long way off.

Mind you the results in the lower grades and colts is not reflective of the effort by the players and coaches at training. There is certainly a strong desire across the whole club to succeed.

That desire will be surely tested over the next month as we take on 4 very competitive clubs, Souths aside the strongest 4 in the comp.

Yeah agreed, aside from Premier and Reserve Grade, the other teams have been rubbish. I haven't seen any of their games, but the Premier Colts results show they are really struggling (big losses against Wests and Souths).

TT and T12, definitely not hearsay and it is public knowledge hence why I felt it did not matter it being in a public forum as it was front page news of the GC Bulletin a few months back. Regardless, it is great to hear that he is doing well in Tigerland and as I mentioned previously I hope it all works out for him.

Red Heavy, I thought your blokes were very clinical on the weekend. At 12-5 at halftime I thought we were a chance to claw our way back into the contest but the amount of defence effort the boys had to put into the 1st half told as your mob kicked away in the last 20. Lachlan Duncan's missed try when he spilt the ball over the line with no one around him summed up Bond's day. Uni dominant across all four grades vs Bond.

Big Dog - the GPS game v Wests in Prems sounds a bit like Easts effort the week before.

So both teams have a bit of work to do before the GF replay at Yoku Rd in round 6. Might be another thriller like the game at Yoku last year when GPS got the chocolates at the death thanks to Radike & Frisby.

We should be able to get some good form lines with Easts & GPS this year as the 2014 draw has GPS playing the side that Easts played the week before.

Yeh agreed Tigers Tale - lots of work to be done. Apparently Shane Arnold gave the boys a pretty big revving at halftime to get them firing again.

I think most of the players, coaches, supporters etc down at Yoku Rd know this group of players have been together for a while now and are probably reaching the point where their window for winning the comp is starting to close. There hasn't been much turnover of players (at least in Prem Grade) for the past 2-3 years so hopefully what they've been building towards can fully come to fruition in 2014 after getting so close last year.

Not to say of the current group don't deserve their positions but change needs to come eventually and I just hope these guys can win a Premiership first.

With respect Big Dog - I hope that the GPS Premiership window has shut.

This is a statement made with ardent blue and gold eyes. Not Marist Brothers Ashgrove blue and gold but Easts blue and gold.

Problem with your destiny theory is that you don't get any credits for prior year performances - sometimes you just have to take the opportunity when it presents because you never know if you will get another.

Can you tell me what has happened to Nick Zangary? Is he injured or has he had to take the fall for the Grand Final loss?

Now onto the important game. Brothers v Souths.

I headed out to Chipsy Wood Oval, which is always a delightful occasion.
Souths started the game well, this was due to the backline spreading the ball wide and relying on pace to gain metres. A few Brothers missed tackles helped as well. However, Souths lost that momentum by giving away turnovers and penalties inside the Brothers half. This of course resulted in Brothers kicking for metres and spending most of the half inside Souths territory. With a few stupid infringements by the home side, Sam Greene kicked three easy penalties. However, Souths defence was excellent on the in goal line with multiple Brothers attacks and nearly held out before Clynton Knox crossed over to make the score 16-6( I think). (Can't recall if the scoreboard or my memory is malfunctioning, let's go with the latter!)
Souths, began the second half in similar fashion to the first. They managed to build on territory and a capitalize on a few Brothers infringements, to cross the line and leave a 3 point ball game.
Brothers strong ball carrying and weight on possession proved too much as they crossed the line several times late in the second half, which resulted in a 37-13 scoreline.

Standouts
Brothers- The whole forward pack. Every single players pulled their weight and this was the difference between winning and losing. The backline as well was solid, lead by Greene, who was excellent in his first game back for the Brethren. Kimani Sitauti and Clynton Knox are two to keep an eye on.
Souths- #10, 11, 1, 2, 6

In two weeks time, Brothers host Wests, which should be closer than last year.

Pretty good recap of the day at http://matchdayburger.com/ They produce a pretty entertaining read for each game of the round.
I was a right battle until oranges but the breakers were starved of ball in the second half and UQ ran away more trough weight of possession more then anything else.
Breakers showed me enough to believe they are on the right path as they scarp for everything and really compete at the breakdown .
For UQ the 7 jack de gangeoun (no idea on spelling) formally of syd uni was a stand out yet again. Dave hickey must be one hell of a player Bruce Ross to have kept gangers out I the 7 jersey there.

Haha we'll see TT! Agreed no credits given for prior year performances but I reckon the players that have been added to the Gallopers this year make them even better in 2014. For example I mentioned in the colts thread Campbell Magnay played his first game on the weekend in Prem Colts and James Tuttle has also been playing well. Both will probably get a run in Prem Grade soon and fill a few holes in the backline which were lacking in 2013.

Nick Zangari played in Premier Reserve on the weekend, not sure whether he was returning from injury or has just ended up their. Im thinking with Reds A player Sam Johnson at 13 he takes Zangas position.

Good report by Filth. Once again Souths were penalised out of the first half with the penalty count being 7-1 at the end of the half and with Brothers having a kicker of Greene's skill they were lucky not to be further behind.
It didn't help Souths cause when they lost three of probably their most important players for the second half when #10 Mafi Kefu, #15 Andy Muirhead and #1 Davey Feao all failed to take the field in the second stanza due to injury.
Souths were well in the game with about 15 minutes remaining and the score at 16-13 but as Filth pointed out, weight of possession and strong ball carries took its toll and Brothers crossed a couple of times and got their bonus point try after the bell.
Souths will take the weeks break and come out strongly against Sunnybank in the traditional "grudge" match between the Southsiders.

I wonder who Albert will be supporting in that one, warhouse? haha

Onto Uni v Uni. I'm disappointed about the scoreline. I recall last year Bond (or GC as they were back then) got off to a great start leading about 20-0. Before Uni ran out victors.

I watched a little bit of the Easts v Wests game online, only due to Easts being the only club who publishes their games online. I have to say Blake Enever was the only players who got serious metres for the Easts. Which is why you're lucky to have Parraka back. Jack Mullins was the star back with a try and decent tackling.

I'm unsure about GPS at the moment. How they play Brothers or University will be a sign of their chances for this season. I think having Kite in the forwards and Kuridrani and Kerevi in the backs will better their chances for the back end of the season.

Souths just need to focus on their discipline. If they don't give away stupid penalties to decent teams, they might go alright.

Filth - did Greene start the game then?

That is a very impressive outcome for the Filth and I may have to refine my pre-season projection for the boys in the butcher stripes.

Brothers are sitting in their perennial position - 2nd - a top or near the top of the Premiership table after 4 rounds.

But as impressive as the Filth's standing is on the table. Souths are the only side in the top 4 who have played multiple current top 5 sides - in fact they have played Easts, GPS & Bros.

After adjusting for teams played and byes taken I'd say that the current standing is a fair representation of the season to date.
Uni 4 x BP wins;
Bros 3 (2 x 4TBP) from 3;
Souths 3 (2 x 4TBP) form 4
Easts & GPS 2 wins & 3 BPs from 3 games.

All in all the teams will enjoy the Easter break and look forward to some tough rugby ahead, and I am sure that Sunnybank won't lie down without causing some hassles for the top 5 sides.

Premier Grade after Rnd 4
Bye Played Points
1 UNI 4 20
2 BROS R3 3 14
3 SOUTHS 4 14
4 EASTS R1 3 11
5 GPS R2 3 11
6 WESTS 4 9
7 BOND 4 4
8 SNBK R4 3 4
9 NORTHS 4 2

My projection for the top is now UNI, Bros, Easts & GPS. I think that an injury toll could prevent Souths from finishing the season as strongly as they have started it.

Warhorse can you tell me why Doubles Daly was at Bottomley on Saturday and not at Chipsy Wood?

I heard that he may have had a falling out with the Souths Board - can you confirm or deny?

I hope that this is not the case because it would be a travesty if it was true after everything Doubles has done for Souths. That man has Black and White blood.

If you think I am one eyed I have nothing on Doubles!!

Filth, the discipline seems to be a problem only with one particular referee. The same referee was in charge against Easts and the penalty count that day was off the scale as well. Against Norths and GPS the count was reasonable and even. Must be something to do with interpretation.
With regard to Albert, the word I hear is that he hasn't yet been cleared back to Sunnybank, so we may yet see him back in the black and white that he wore so well as a junior.

TT I can't tell you why Doubles was at Bottomley on Saturday. I am merely a Souths supporter and spectator, not a Club official or Board member so I am not privy to any inside information, if in fact there is any such information.
