Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

I agree with Pfitzy, Parramatta stadium must be go.

Concord Stadium - probably a good size, but it's to close to the city, virtually no parking for a 5000+ crowd, and limited public transport

TG Millner - probably an alright location, but to small I believe for the crowds the rams should be aiming for (5000+), and yet again limited parking and limited public transport

Nepeon Park and Merrylands RSL Rugby Park - way to small and rubbish grounds, end of story really

Centrebet Stadium - way to far west in my opinion and people won't travel out to penrith, probably a better size but to far west

St Marys Stadium - maybe a good size for first season but it's in rugby league heartland and yet again probably to far west in my opinion and union fans won't be willing to travel there,

Parramatta Stadium - has to be go in my opinion, good size for 5000+ especially with good marketing and social media campaigns, centrally located in western Sydney, good public transport with buses and trains going there and has a degree of parking. Only negative is maybe cost to hire but I wouldn't know

I understand the rams want to grow the game but we must start centrally first and aim for 5000+ crowds, and Parramatta stadium meets this criteria

Do you really think 5'000 crowds are going to occur in the first season, the Canberra team has budgeted for 1'000 crowds.

Well I wouldn't know what the Rams are aiming for cause I don't work for them but considering the ARC in 2007 were receiving crowds of between 3000-6000 a game I think the Rams would be aiming for at least 5000 (maybe a little less in first season). With strong social media campaigns and through good marketing there's no reason why they couldn't receive crowds of 5000+. Especially once players are named, grounds are named and dates of games are released I believe the rams can really take off

I just had a look on wiki, so i can't be certain of the accuracy of the figures, but these were the crowds for the Wesern Sydney Rams at Parramatta Stadium.

Rd 3: 2'016
Rd 4: 1'601
Rd 7: 2'139
Rd 8: 1'612
Semi-Final: 1'512

I'd love to see the new team get crowds of 5'000, but i think you need to be realistic in expectations.. There's no point paying for facilities which can host crowds of 21'500(Parramatta Stadium) if only 3'000 are going to show up, you will run each game at a loss... Maybe some smaller stadiums like TG Milner need to be considered, the facilities might be of a lower quality but the profit from home games should be greater..

I agree. If they manged to draw around 3,000 to a game it would look a lot better at a near full TG Milner or St Mary's than Pirtek Stadium. It's also more realistic for the number likely to look at TG and probably far less expensive.

Yes I have had a look and it seems the rams were only receiving the crowds stated above. However other teams were getting attendances of 3000-4500 regularly. Maybe TG Millner would be an appropriate ground to play home games out of in the first season and then maybe look to move to a bigger stadium like Parramatta Stadium if the rams are successful and games at TG Millner are selling out

Rams need to cover for all supporters however which extends to southern. Fixing it at Milner is a long drive from Port hacking

Yeah the 4 games should be played in different venues - Greater Sydney is a massive area! But I think they should play each game in a ground that can hold at least 5k. Maybe budget for crowds of 2000, but the aim should be 5000+ in my opinion.

There's no reason that can't be achieved.

Hard to build a fortress with four different venues, though maybe in the first year that needs to happen. Problem then is, who is first among equals when future planning is done?

Geographically, West Harbour or Eastwood to Parramatta is a 15-20 minute drive. Penrith is half an hour. Forshaw to Parramatta is around 40 minutes without traffic.

It was always going to be an issue with including Southern Districts in the group, but I don't personally know of many good rugby venues between Parramatta and Sylvania that can handle 2000 people, let alone 5000.

Country NSW are certainly aiming for it, and with four regional centres I think it'll be a huge success as the locals will turn out to see rugby, particularly strongholds like New England, Bathurst, and Hunter (depending on what their own finals schedule looks like, though maybe they could work their finals into game day?)

Pfitzy, I agree if you were to have 1 venue the best option would be around the Parramatta area. I believe it's the geographic centre of Sydney and it certainly works for the Wanderers.

The only problem is Parramatta Stadium is probably a touch too big and I'm guessing expensive. If it's not too expensive it might be a decent option. The other thing is I think the area where the Rams will get the most initial support is in the North West so it would make sense having a game there. I grew up in that area and rugby has a good following. Eastwood is usually a lot stronger than Parramatta, Penrith and West Harbour in the Shute Shield for a reason.
