who do you think the favourites for the JSC in the 15's 16's and 17's are ?
16s. Penrith. They have been playing as a squad for the last several weeks and playing well. Dark horse is ACT with a different team to last year. I don't know whether they have lost players to loig and school or they've been recruiting far and wide. Time will tell.

Don't write off Eastwood 16's.

In the trial with Penrith there wasn't much between the two in only Eastwoods 2nd hit out so they will improve come the sharp end of the tournament.

Just looked at the 16's draw Penrith have Warringah 1st up they should smash them, and then they have Parra which they shouldn't have any problems with also. They have North's on the second day which will be a bit tougher. Their pool should see North's and Penrith through to the quarters from pool C.
Pool A should see Gordon and ACT go through and Pool B should see Eastwood and Randwick go through.

Yeah I think your right, probably Penrith definite favourites to win with a clean sweep.

What about the 15's and 17's ?

U17's = Anyone could show up and win. Previous performance by the cohort as they have progressed through the junior ranks is an unreliable guide because of the drop out rates between 16's and 17's.

SJRU Open Grade Club performances is also a little unreliable, because some kids still seem to qualify for JSC, even though they are playing Colts footy. Until the team lists are seen, the U17's is wide open.

I agree. I somehow expect that "the others " have all lost valuable players to other commitments so if penrith can get their boys to play rugby they will be hard to stop. I've heard you've lost your 1/2 as an example. Not easily replaced

Yes, 1/2 has gone and 5/8 injured from last year but the pack is probably stronger.

There is a general theme on this thread that there is too much rep footy, questioning the need for JSC for all age groups every year from Under 11's up to Under 17's.

U17's. 1st XV private schools rugby severly impacts on the U17's. The CHS and CCC U17 boys seem to be found in the ranks of Colts 2's and Colts 3's further impacting on the availability. ARU have laid a claim to this age group with their U17 JGC programme.

U16's seems to still be a battle ground for "ownership" between Clubs/Districts and Schools, although Schools with their Championship at Knox in late June probably have the upper hand in terms of prestige.

U15's. ARU have laid a claim to this age group with their U15 JGC programme. This is seen by them as the entry level for the Koala Club, or at least the starting point to establish a rugby CV for later entry into Elite Development programmes.

I think taking the Under 14's Championships to the Bush is a great idea, and while Orange can be as cold as a kiss from the Mother-In-Law, it is a great experience for the kids, and it is a fairly level playing field, schools vs clubs wise.

U11's probably should be a state rugby carnival rather than championship tournament.

Quick Straw poll BEFORE State Champs:

Is the Junior Rugby Representative programme too crowded?

If so, what steps would you suggest shold be adopted to change it?

Reading the banter on the Sydney Colts thread, it would appear to be that the Emus Juniors have their proverbial in the sock, and what's more the PDJRU are actually running the Emu's Colts programme.

Several very complimantary letters have been circulated from some Club's Colts Directors about what the PDJRU are doing with their programme, and their players.

The volunteers in Emuland are doing well, with little, but there is a stack of work to be done and there are the plenty of predators at the door undermining what little success they achieve.

then they have Parra which they shouldn't have any problems with also. They have North's on the second day which will be a bit tougher.

Parra 16's are not looking too bad. I believe Norths have lost 5 or 6 including their number 8 who provided much of their 'go forward' so it will be an interesting match up for the 2nd spot in pool C.

Has the aforementioned 8 emerged at another club/rep team? Or another loss to school rugby?

Because slugga's petulance prevents him reading my posts (and his has misread yours) he is talking about the Penrith number 8 - who actually returned from NZ some months ago, I believe.
