It's far better than just having Cheika run the Wobs and the Waratahs alone. If we are going to do this super franchise +wallabies coach thing, let's pull out all the stops and get these guys communicating throughout next year.

They will have to put provincial bias behind them, but I don't think those blokes will have that problem, its the ARU who can't seem to get a grip on unity at the top level.

This is potentially a very fine coaching alliance, but that doesn't mean the Wallabies job isn't a poisoned chalice.

The same fanfare surrounded McKenzie's appointment; he was more qualified for the job than Cheika and was an effectual man manager, who doesn't [didn't] tolerate dickheads.

It sounds like Pulver and the players/staff/board implicated in this whole sordid affair will shirk accountability (and may even be given preferential treatment).

What has changed apart from the coach/es? Is Cheika doomed to suffer the same fate as Deans and Link? If there was anything that we needed to take from this, it is that we need to get the whole house in order, from the players, up to the upper echelons of the ARU.

I hope Cheika is astute enough to know what he has got himself into, and whether he has been given free rein to knock some heads together. Otherwise it is just Groundhog Day all over again

Common sense says the current assistants will share the gig.

Another more exciting and credible option is to get the current S15 coaches to form a cartel and take us. Foley in charge of the forwards, Larkham the backs, Cheika can lead and Graham can be in charge of hydration.

Apparently Cheika has accepted, wants Bernie and Foley as assistants.

I have to say I'm pretty fucking excited about Cheika, Larkham and Foley if it comes to fruition. That's a real quality trio for their roles.

Not sure how this is going to impact Super Rugby, but can't see it being positive. Can expect some dour derbies too with such shared knowledge. Advantage Rebels & Reds.

There is no good reason why it shouldn't work. If they can pull there heads out of their backsides and put state bias aside when dealing with the national side it will benefit all.
The best players from all of the Super sides are chosen so why not the coaches? They will need to go back to a selection committee comprising 2 coaches and several ARU board members, probably Eales and Gregan.

Yes we want our Super sides to go well but ultimately we want the Wallabies to be the best......no?

Cheikas tahball is going to grind to a fucking halt when we are up against the blacks or boks or poms (at home). The lot of you will be begging for jakeball in 12 months.

You assume Cheika is a one trick pony. I think he showed this season he is not. But I am a little concerned at his complete lack of even assistant's experience at this level.
I think that the most important immediate requirement is something for which he is renowned: attitude adjustment. His appointment can be justified on this ground alone but it necessarily involves allowing KB (Kurtley Beale) to suffer whatever fate awaits him rather than continuing to justify his inclusion in teams on the basis of his (arguable) ability.
The rot must be stopped.

Cheika is a great coach. Just hope he doesn't get Beale off the hook. Heard on news he has asked for him to stay. Maybe he knows there is no hope for KB (Kurtley Beale) and is using this to get the players onside.

I don't think he should take the Tahs next year but am less concerned about that if his assistants are Larkham & Foley. Doesn't give him the time he needs to devote to both. One example where it worked for the ABs in the 70's is
hardly justification, things are too different in the modern era.

What's Nick Mallett up to these days. I remember he took the Springboks on a 17 match unbeaten run. Outspoken sometimes to his detriment, coached Italy up to the last RWC, that's two international teams he's coached.

He retired and according to him he has no interest in returning to a coaching position

I like the idea of three coaches as it means each player can be managed by their respective coach. No influence from Reds or Rebels, but Higgers and the Reds boys seem to be able to cope just fine.

Can't see this ending up a shitfight at all. There were complains about NSW bias when there was a New Zealander coaching.

Now there is an active NSW coach in charge of the Australian team and as a result, top up contracts.

Should all work out fine.

I can't imagine either of them - but especially Cheika - accepting that proposal. They both have egos. I'm sure they'd want to have more control than that would allow them.

I still don't buy it. Almost thirty years later and it's not an amateur game anymore.
